Vehicle Description
This 1966 Lincoln Continental is located in Bradenton, FL and
offered by a classic car dealer. The Continental is a series of
personal luxury cars that was produced by Ford Motor Company and
served as the flagship vehicle of Ford Motor Company for its entire
production. For 1966, the fourth-generation Lincoln Continental
underwent a second mid-cycle redesign to better compete against the
Cadillac Coupe de Ville and the Imperial Crown Coupe. This 1966
Lincoln Continental is a low milage (66k), 2-door luxury classic
finished in tan with a dark vinyl roof and is powered by a 460
cubic inch V8 backed by a C-6 automatic transmission and loaded
with options. Mechanical The 460 cubic inch V8 engine is equipped
with a four-barrel carburetor and was rated from the factory at 365
horsepower with the power being sent to the rear wheels via a C-6
three-speed automatic transmission. The engine looks just as it did
from the factory with its Ford Blue painted block and valve covers,
and chrome air cleaner assembly as well as having all the correct
parts on it like power steering, power brakes, air conditioning,
factory cast iron exhaust, and sits in a clean and detailed engine
compartment. It rides on steel wheels that are fitted with factory
Lincoln turbine-style wheel covers and wears thin whitewall tires.
Interior The cabin is upholstered in burgundy leather with the
split front bench seat with a folding front armrest with the
matching full rear seat and is equipped with the usual luxury
amenities including power windows, power locks, radio, and air
conditioning which is controlled from a panel mounted to the left
of the steering column. Instrumentation is housed in individual
square recesses, and includes a 120-mph speedometer, analog clock,
fuel level indicator, oil pressure gauge, and coolant temperature
gauge, with just about 66k miles shown on the five-digit odometer.
Exterior The Lincoln is based on the contemporary Thunderbird
platform with a slightly longer wheelbase in 1966. Ours is finished
in a subtle shade of tan and features a darker shade vinyl top in
good condition too. While following much of the 1965 restyling
(distinguished in '66 largely by a new grille and the addition of
"Continental" to the hood), the 1966 Lincoln Continental wore an
all new body, growing 5 inches longer (implemented primarily in the
rear seats to accommodate more legroom), and nearly an inch taller
and wider. Curved side glass made its return and it offered an
engine sized comparably to those in the Imperial (440 cubic inches
in 1966) and Cadillac (429 cubic inches, 472 cubic inches in 1968),
the 430 V8 was enlarged to 462 cubic inches. It retains the
Continental script, that great iconic styling flows gracefully
along the long lines of this two-door from front to the rear, it
has shiny front and rear bumpers and looks long, low, and sleek,
just like the designers were looking for.
