Vehicle Description
Gateway Classic Cars Houston showroom is excited to present this
"Last of the Line" 1962 Chevrolet Corvette. The 1962 model year saw
the introduction of the potent 327 CID V8 to the Corvette's last
year of the 1st generation of this venerable American sports car.
The 327 helped the 'Vette up its ante against the rest of the
sports car world, making it a true force to be reckoned with on the
road. This example spent a great deal of time in the shop of
"Corvette Mike", in Anaheim, CA, and they clearly took pride in
their work. The exterior is a gorgeous Ermine White, and the
interior is done in (factory) Fawn synthetic leather and matching
carpet. And, while it looks awesome (and very original), its looks
are hiding some tasteful and appropriate upgrades. The original
engine has been supplanted with a professionally built 355 CID V8,
now sporting Edelbrock Performer aluminum heads and intake, a big
Holley 4BBL carb, and is backed by a professionally built 4-speed
manual transmission. A massive aluminum radiator replaced the
original and is kept cool by the addition of both and electric fan
and aluminum flex fan. Coated exhaust manifolds feed into a dual
exhaust system with MagnaFlow mufflers, and together with the more
potent V8, work to provide that vintage muscle car rumble that
buyers crave. The 4-speed shifts smoothly, transferring the power
to the C1 rear end, and subsequently to the pavement. This slick C1
is also hiding a modern 4-wheel disc brake setup, with stainless
steel brake lines, and sure stops are the norm, rather than the
exception. Handling is vastly improved via the addition of a Martz
Chassis C1 Corvette front crossmember and suspension kit, which is
equipped with tubular control arms, urethane bushings, a power
steering rack, and QA1 adjustable coil over shocks. This C1 now
corners like a much more modern sports car, and unless one crawls
underneath to see why, onlookers will be left scratching their
heads as to how this C1 on its (relatively) skinny radial rubber
(P205/75R15 up front, P225/75R15 out back) can carve corners as
adeptly as this C1 can! Steering is tight and precise, and bumps
that would normally cause the front end to push or skitter barely
are barely even noticed, and the KYB Gas-a-Just shocks out back
keep the rear end properly damped. Additional enhancements in the
engine bay include the polished brake booster and master cylinder,
along with the polished compressor and alternator, and a full set
of billet aluminum pulleys, which all show that this C1 means
business. The interior retains its nearly original look, except for
the A/C ducts, of course. The Fawn synthetic leather seats and the
beige carpet have been very well kept and serve to continue the
vintage look of the cockpit. This is one terrific C1: combine its
original looks and stance with its modern powerplant and suspension
upgrades, and you have a very desirable blend of vintage and
modern, which serve up to deliver a very competent driving machine!
Additional features on this 1962 Chevrolet Corvette for sale are
Air Conditioning, AM/FM Wonderbar-style radio, Power Brakes, Power
Steering, Radial Tires, Seat Belts, and Spare Tire with Jack. If
you're looking for an outstanding C1, look no further!
