Gateway Classic Cars of Louisville is proud to present this 1963
ASM Corvette Grand Sport Tribute!!! In 1963 a team lead by Zora
Arkus-Duntov aka "the Father of the Corvette" decided to take a
swing at the mighty Shelby Cobra on the track and that......is when
a legend was born. Under the codename "Project Lightweight" the
Grand Sport came to fruition with raw potential and under GM's
nose. Weighing in around 1900lbs the original grand sports had an
exceptional power to weight ratio. It wasn't long before GM
management took notice, hard not to when a car your company built
hit the headlines when it started dominating at the track. With
only 5 built at the time, GM ordered the immediate destruction of
the cars. Duntov would not let that happen, so they quickly found
their way into private hands. With only 5 built many wanted to get
their hands on one but simply couldn't so it didn't take long for
kits to emerge. That is what we have here. This kit, by D&D was
to bring about a lot of originality to the Grand Sports original
design. The kit is assembled on D&D tube chassis as well with a
roll bar. The blue paint and silver/red stripes are certainly a
through back and overall, in good shape with a nice shine. The
black and gray leather interior looks sharp and in good order as
well. Now for what you have been waiting for. What could be taking
up residency under that iconic hood? As you hit the releases and
lift the hood your pulse quickens, and you crack a smile as you
draw a deep breath. That smile turns to a rather large grin as your
gaze passes over all the aluminum and read the letters,
M-E-R-L-I-N! There certainly is no replacement for displacement.
Powering this corvette, harking to its legacy and bringing it up to
modern times is an aluminum Merlin 572ci V8 with a stated 931
horsepower! That's naturally aspirated power folks!!! Helping the
rear axle understand the colossal requests that the motor is making
a Rockland 6-speed manual transmission was selected to put it down!
None of this matters if you can't translate that power to the
ground. For this Michelin Pilot Sport 335/35Zr17 sit on the back
275/40ZR17 help grip in the front. She is sporting a Dana 44 rear
end and 3:08 gear ratio. Couple that with the 6-speed and this
powerhouse can still be a fun cruiser. Current owner acquired the
kit around 16 years ago and build was finally completed in 2015.
Only 4k miles has elapsed since the assembly was completed. Since
the car is an assembled kit the car is assigned a vin and title
issued for the year completed. This Corvette is titled as a 2015
Assembled (ASM) Corvette. The title is clean and clear and ready to
be transferred into your name now. Every kit is slighty unique but
that is an understatement for this one. When you are behind the
wheel of this car you feel unstoppable, and it evokes a nostalgia
you can't possibly replicate! Options on this Corvette are: A/C,
Power Steering, Power Brakes, Leather Interior, Rear Camera, Power
Windows/Mirrors, Seat Belts, Posi Traction, and Racing Wheels. This
