Vehicle Description
2001 Ford Mustang Roush Stage 3 Coupe
If you are a motorsports fan, you recognize Jack Roush because of
his racing teams-and because of his trademark straw hat. He's "the
cat in the hat," as Benny Parsons puts it, the cat whose cars
dominated the SCCA's Trans-Am series and claimed 10 consecutive
class victories in the 24 Hours of Daytona. But where Roush's name
really has gained national prominence is in NASCAR's Winston Cup
series, with Mark Martin and Jeff Burton winning nearly 50 races in
Roush-prepared Fords.
For consignment, a Stage 3 Roush Mustang in near excellent
condition. Still sporting the original badges, added LeMans
stripes, nice paint and near showroom condition, this car has been
well taken care of throughout its life. Showing only 26,416 title
verified original miles, this 2 owner since 2001 high performance
pony has lots of life to offer a new owner.
Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by
the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws
to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public
highways in your area.*
Exterior
Showing in very nice Oxford White, the exterior of this car is
nearly spotless. With its ground effects package, rear spoiler, and
cowlings, it sits low to the ground and looks fab! Lots of Roush
signature badges adorn the car over the white. Black LeMans stripes
have been added and they run the gamut of the body, stem to stern
and add to the racy look. Throaty side exhaust exits are molded
into the rocker cowling. A long hood starts out in Oxford White and
leads back to a faux reverse heat extractor scoop then onto the
swept back windshield. Doors with well minded gaps have another
earlier cue in the hockey stick cove which is in the beginnings of
the rear quarter on this model. On the back is a small but
effective spoiler, and a now integrated curved trio of rear
taillights, (think 1964-1/2!), with a large rear neoprene bumper
and a large MUSTANG embossment finishes off the back. We note some
blemishes in the paint along with some discoloration around the
neoprene bumpers and our consignor states that the front bumper
cover was repainted to take care of "scratches and road rash". 5
spoke Bullitt style chrome wheels courtesy of American Muscle are
on all 4 corners.
Interior
A mixture of Charcoal Black color plastic and vinyl combine and
utilize their curved integration in the door panels. A brushed
aluminum panel has been added to the power window/lock/mirror panel
and gives some nice bling. This carries over to the dash which has
2 curved eyebrows that swoop downward in the center and form the
radio/climate control/ and gearshift cluster. The driver's
instrument cluster has white faced gauges, and these are placed in
a black background. These swoops utilize the same Charcoal Black
materials as the door panels and create a beautiful interior.
Buckets showing slight wear, are in black leather, and have a red
horizontal stripe across the upper portion of the setback just for
some visual fun. A 2 plus 2 rear seat is in the back and appears to
never have been sat in. Near perfect carpet floods the floor and
has nicely embroidered Roush floor mats to protect the carpet and
above is a black felted headliner.
Drivetrain
A 4.6 Liter SOHC V8 is seen in a very clean engine bay. It is
topped with a supercharger, Roushcharger for those in the know, and
with the help of EFI and a fenderwell Roush cold air induction kit
makes a tire shredding 360hp. No dirt or corrosion here as it looks
much like the day it was driven out of the showroom. Fabricated
aluminum cam covers have been added and a strut tower brace is on
to help with high-speed cornering. Bolted to the back of this
potent mill is a Tremec 3650 5-speed manual transmission and
weighing in at the tail end is a Ford 8.8 rear axle with a 3.27
Tracloc gearing.
Undercarriage
As part of the Stage 3 Mustang package, handling is provided by
independent coil spring front suspension, and a 4-link rear
suspension. Larger power disc brakes are found, and you can see
nice red emblazoned Roush calipers through the shiny wheels.
Headers feed down from the engine and send spent fumes out the
sides of the car via a pair of Spintech mufflers.
Drive-Ability
This racer fired right up and on the test track performed
beautifully. Acceleration was limitless, handling was akin to Tommy
Kendall's 11-time winning Roush prepared Trans-Am racer and braking
was more than adequate even during our panic stop test. All in all,
a great driver and performer and with the side exhaust you really
become one with the car, especially in the high RPM's. This only
issue that crept up was 3rd gear was occasionally hard to engage,
our consignor noted this issue and had it checked with a
transmission shop, but no problems were found.
One of the best kept secrets of its time, a supercharged Mustang
with Roush performance backing, very well cared for example, with
very nice paint, correct Roush badging, and all its aero cowlings.
This car was treated like a favorite toy, played with then put
securely away for the next time. All working conditions, very
clean, and ready to perform turning heads and providing smiles on
the faces of the new owners.
