For Sale: 1941 Ford 2-Dr Coupe in Spokane, Washington

Vehicle Description

1941 Ford Custom Business Coupe

You are viewing a professionally built high end historical car built by George Barris and painted by legendary Larry Watson in 1955.  Later painted by Gene Winfield when the car was restored in 2003 as it was originally with 2,200 miles driven since finished.  A very traditional custom built and painted by the best of the day.  A true historical car.  This car cruised on weekends with George Barris, Gene Winfield and the rest of the legends back in the day on Bellflower Blvd to Long Beach, CA.  A very popular place to cruise at the time.  Still family owned with Jim Griepsama the original owner.  He bought the car with money earned from milking cows on his Grandfather’s dairy farm.  His grandfather told him he was foolish buying and spending hard earned money customizing the car later to be proved wrong.  His son owns the car now and decided it is time for this historical car to have a new owner.  Jim was personal friends with Larry Watson and the two of them spent many Saturday night cruising in this car down Bellflower Blvd. to Long Beach.  A classic real custom from the 50’s built and painted by legends in the hobby.

Please read on for more particulars of the car:

Body/Paint:
Barris Kustoms did all the body work and leading at his famous shop in Lynwood, CA.  Center grill removed and filled with a rear splash shield customized and welded in off a 48 Ford.  Hood was welded, shaved, leaded seams with turn signals removed.  Headlights were left as stock rather than frenched as the owner wanted.  Tail lights are early Studebaker with Gene Winfield lenses.  Door poppers with small button on quarter trim like the old days with secret power shut off switch.  Rare at the time.  Converted to 12 volt.  Electric wipers added.  Paint is Candy red/cinnamon/orange fade blend.  Custom painted by Gene Winfield base/clear with 6 coats of gold, 5 red and 8 coats of clear with ghost flames designed and laid out by Gene himself.

Interior:   The interior was restored as originally designed.  Some is original such as the chromed window bezels, very rare custom aftermarket radio cover, speaker grill (no functional radio system) and gauge bezel original to the car along with the shifter knob.  Fold up seat as stock to gain access to the rear under the package shelf.  White with red piping.  Very nicely done and just as it was in 55.

Running Gear:  Dodge baby Red Ram Hemi 241 ci (30 over) internally balanced and rebuilt in 2016 with under 3K miles on it.  Port and polished heads done by Hemi Hot Heads.  Isky ¾ cam, adjustable push rods, solid lifter, 10.5 to 1 compression with Ross aluminum pistons, Weiland intake with 4 carb 97s with custom air cleaners, Hi volume oil pump, screw on oil filter, approximately 325 HP, 140 amp alternator, 12 volt, solid state ignition module, puller elect fan and Walker radiator.  Transmission is a 53 Ford F100 3 speed manual with custom adapter.  Original Banjo rear end with open driveline, 378 gears.  20 gallon gas tank.

Suspension:   Front and rear stock with leafs taken out.  Original frame and notched on the rear.  Air shocks on the rear.

Bright work:  Very nice and restored.  Bob Drake aluminum custom grilles.  Bumpers are rechromed filled 48 Ford.  Custom mirrors from CW Moss.

Glass:   Custom once piece windshield and new glass throughout.

Exhaust:   Custom homemade headers dueled off with glass packs.  Sounds awesome.

Brakes:    11 inch Ford drum brakes all the way around and brakes excellent.

Wheels/Tires:    Original steel wheels with original 57 Cad polished caps in excellent condition.  Front tires are 185/70 15 and 235/70 15 radials with lots of rubber.

Summary:  This car is outstanding in its build and fit and finish.  Super clean.  Runs and drives excellent and ready to be enjoyed on the road with a new owner.  The price is very reasonable when considering the cost and quality of build and how historical the car is.  I have over 100 pictures of the car so please contact me and provide your email address if you would like additional pictures.  Great value and a quality car for the money.  If you are into customs don’t let this one pass you by.
