Vehicle Description
This 1969 Buick is a real-deal GS 400 that is upgraded to a 455
Stage 1 tribute. It's the product of a multi-year restoration, and
that means this is not only sleek and powerful, but it's also quite
correct in the vintage details.
This was arguably the best year for these Buicks. They had an
aggressively pointed front end and sweeping sides built into the
sheet metal. This coupe is the product of a multi-year restoration.
It was even resprayed in 2014. This upgraded the factory green to
this awesome maroon metallic you see today. It has a deep luster
that loves the sunlight, but the whole package never gets into
trailer queen territory. After a GS400 like this is meant to be
both admired AND fully enjoyed. The dark paint also showcases the
best in brightwork with the angular front bumper, hood scoop
grilles, and a rear bumper that tapers inward to show off the dual
exhaust tips on this Grand Sport.
The black interior looks terrific against the deep maroon exterior.
And the level of quality will have you leaving the windows down on
this pillarless hardtop so you can proudly show it all off. This
was a color change from stock, but it's so thorough that you'll be
thinking more about a fresh time capsule than an upgraded
restoration. It's a pure vintage style right down to details like
the working Sonomatic AM radio, Buick badging on the center
console, and courtesy lighting that greet you when the door opens.
It's also built to be a true driver's muscle car with front bucket
seats, a wood-rimmed sports steering wheel, a tilt column, and a
well-placed auxiliary gauge trio under the dash.
This wouldn't be a true Grand Sport without an awesome powerhouse,
and if you're looking at the motor callout, then you know this one
is something special. The GS455 would not be released until the
next year, but this one couldn't resist the upgrades. And the Stage
1 package made it one of the fiercest muscle cars out there. This
has classic features like the Rochester four-barrel carburetor and
a fresh air intake. Plus, it's upgraded with worthwhile extras like
a full MSD ignition package, an aluminum radiator, and long tube
headers feeding the dual exhaust. It makes for a serious power
package. So this has a stout but smooth TH400 three-speed automatic
transmission feeding into a 10-bolt 3.08 Positraction rear end. And
because you want a Buick to be an all-around solid driver, you have
power steering, power brakes, front discs, a rear sway bar, and
wide Cooper Cobra tires on classic Buick Rallye wheels.
The sale comes complete with the owner's manual, build receipts,
and PHS documentation. You can now see how this takes the classic
GS400 you love and makes it a serious power player for the streets.
