Vehicle Description
Gateway Classic cars is happy to offer this 1931 Mahogany Model A
Roadster for sale. This Roadster has a traditional 1948 Ford
Flathead V8 with Offenhauser intake and heads sitting on top a pair
of Speedway's Super 7 Carburetors are perched under a Custom wood
trimmed air cleaner housing! Equipped with stainless steel headers
and exhaust and backed by a rebuilt 1939 Ford transmission matted
to a 1931 Banjo rear. Now to the Not so Traditional or normal body,
It is all solid hand crafted Mahogany! This Model A is a Woody of
the highest order! The builder used vintage boat construction
methods with stainless steel fasteners and adhesives. The
measurements used were a 1932 Ford roadster body, he framed and
bookmatched mahogany planks over the white oak and poplar frame.
The planks diverge from the centerline down the back of the
roadster, each left and right bearing the same grain to produce a
mirror grain pattern from port to starboard! Every screw to piece
the planks together have been plugged and smoothed over. He used
Swedish Epiphanies Marie Varnish and carefully sanded after each of
the dozen coats. The Craftmanship and time put into this build is
something I have never seen before! The Tail sports 1950 Pontiac
taillights and a custom-built rear bumper made from a barroom foot
rail! The interior was kept conservative and also all 100% custom
built with a Mahogany dash with Stewart Warner Gauges a hand
crafted Banjo steering wheel that is quarter-sawn oak with dovetail
biscuit joints. The Cream colored, hand stitched vinyl bench seat
with matching door panels, it all looks great! Did you notice the
Stance? It is spot on! The frame is a 1929 Frame that was taken
down to bare metal, cleaned up and then Z'd two inches in the rear.
The front is boxed with a custom cross member and shock mounts
fitted with vintage chrome shocks. The steering box is a vintage
1951 Chris Craft unit from a boat! But not everything is Old School
it is option with a powered truck lid which opens to a 12-volt
electrical system with a NAPA battery mounted inside, a 15 gallon
fuel cell sits at the front of the truck and an electronic ignition
system. This 31 Model A sits on Firestone Bias Ply tires wrapped
around 16-inch wire wheels, 450s in front and 750s in the rear. If
you are looking for a complete custom build that will stand apart
from all the rest, you just found it!
