Gateway Classic Cars of Louisville is proud to present this 1968
Chevrolet "Nickey" Camaro SS/RS. Not familiar with a Nickey Camaro,
here is a little history. Nickey Chevrolet opened all the way back
in 1925. It didn't take long for them to make a name for
themselves. By the 60s they were one of the largest automotive
retailers and more importantly the largest Hi-Performance parts
shop in the world! If the factory wouldn't do it, Nickey would.
When the all-new Camaro was unveiled for the '67 Model year Nickey
was quick to offer the monster 427 engine as a dealer install and
several other performance upgrades, cementing their place in
automotive history. The muscle car and horsepower wars were
abruptly ended in the early 70s, largely due to the new emissions
standards. Sadly Nickey Chevrolet could not sustain their way of
business and closed their doors in 1973. But it would not be
forever. In 2010 under new ownership and working from an incredible
legacy, Nickey is back in business! Here we have a 1968 model,
believed to be an original "Nickey" Stage II Camaro. Unfortunately,
Nickey Chevrolet did not keep great records and with the closure
many have been lost to history. There is no documentation to verify
it and numbers do not match because motors were swapped at the shop
to create these legendary cars back in the day. The stance of this
car is iconic. The red paint looks great and the shiny 427 and
Nickey badging quickly command your attention. The redline tires is
a nice touch. The black vinyl interior complements the look and is
also in great order. Walking around to the drive door you grip the
handle and excitement overwhelms you. As you step in and as you get
settled you run your hands around the steering wheel and the
nostalgia takes hold. Push in the clutch and give her a little gas
as you turn the key and monster 427ci V8 roars to life. The sound
of this car, especially on a cold start! You know what I'm talking
about. You should see the headers on this ride! Look to be full
2-inch. All the power of this big block is at your fingertips,
literally, as she has a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission! The
current owner has had her for over 4 years, acquired her from a
private local owner. Under his ownership he removed, repainted and
resealed the block. Electric fans were installed to keep her cool.
A complete fuel system overhaul was done, OEM fuel lines, new fuel
intake and rebuilt carburetor. Owner believes all the chrome to be
original. The title is clean and clear and ready to be transferred
into your name now! This car is certainly going to command
attention anywhere you take her, or simply where anyone car hear
it! Options on this Camaro include: Power Brakes, Vinyl Interior,
Seat Belts, AM/FM Radio, Rally Wheels, and Redline Tires. This 1968
