Wow, this one is over restored! They weren't this glossy when new.
This is a show car only driven on and off the trailer. Top award
winner at Chevelle Nationals and Chevy Vettefest. Same owner 39
years, 1980-2019. I tracked down the restorer and we talked a few
times. He took this car down to bare. He said every component came
apart as far as it could. I certainly was even more impressed after
talking with him. This is a genuine SS, verified in the vin in
1968.
EXTERIOR: Factory Matador red car, code R. It ss better than it
left the factory. The body is absolutely pristine. All the gaps are
precise, the body is laser beam straight. I could not find an
issue, there are no problem areas. The paint is polished like
glass. The jambs are slick. The doors and trunk shut like new. It
has the optional white stripe. Almost all of the exterior trim is
New Old Stock. Everything from the grill to the taillights look
new. The glass is all crystal clear and aligned properly. The vinyl
top is excellent. It has correct antenna and T-3 headlights. All
weather strips and window seals have been replaced. The Wide Oval
red line tires still have nubs on the tread. The wheels are
restored and have mint poverty caps.
INTERIOR: From carpet to headliner it is immaculate. You can even
look up behind the dash and it looks like new. The wiring harness
was replaced. Down on the floor it has new carpet and completely
restored GM seat belts. The center console is all new and has the
correct Muncie shifter sticking out of it. The seats have been
recushioned and upholstered. The plastic trim is new. The dash
sparkles- all the chrome bezels, heater controls, vents and knobs
are restored or new. It has a factory "roll" tachometer and a
factory gauge cluster. Upgraded quartz movement in in the clock.
AM-FM stereo with a very rare multiplex system. Even more rare it
actually works. Mint deluxe steering wheel. The door panels,
armrest, window cranks have all been replaced. The headliner is
tight as a drum. All the interior lights work.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Wow, it looks like it has never been started.
Again, over restored. Everything is glossy. The correct 396 with
optional 350 hp motor was completely rebuilt. Stock components
including valve covers, manifold, air cleaner etc. It features air
conditioning, power steering and brakes. Every component is
restored like new!
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Pristine metal. The spatter paint was sprayed
from a gun and looks like the factory did it. The jams and trunk
lid are slick. New wiring, weatherstrip, seat insulation, decals,
mat and latch. 5th matching redline on restored rim. Restored jack
assembly too.
UNDERSIDE: OMG, look at the pictures. It is just as polished and
glossy underneath as it is on top. The immaculate metal floors are
high gloss red paint. The chassis is high gloss black. Every piece
looks new from the cotter pins to the frame. The body was removed
from the frame and the chassis was completely disassembled. Every
single steering and suspension component was replaced or rebuilt.
The factory type exhaust system was completely replaced. The fuel
system is new including the tank, straps, sending unit and
stainless lines. The drum brake system was completely rebuilt. New
stainless lines, all new e-brake assembly. Looking up the motor it
is immaculate, the starter is restored. The Muncie 4-speed is
restored. The linkage, clutch and all related parts were replaced.
The u-joints were replaced, driveshaft was restored. The original
12 bolt rear has 3.07 posi gears.
This is literally one of the best restored Chevelles I've ever
seen. It looks and feels like a new 1968 Chevelle!
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for
virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant
amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my
professional impression of the vehicle.
Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure
your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do
a walk around video that explains the car's condition in
detail.
**These cars are displayed in a museum. If interested in a
particular car make an appointment with a salesman to see that car.
Without an appointment there is an admission fee to enter the
showroom. If you buy a car, your admission will be refunded and you
will be given a 1 year membership.
