Vehicle Description
2011 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport
The legend of the Grand Sport started in secret. Famed Corvette
engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov sensed the threat of the Shelby Cobra
and wanted to create a lightweight version of the Corvette to rival
it. The result was one of the most coveted 'Vettes on the planet.
Duntov created a unique "birdcage" body frame, wrapped it in
thinner aluminum, and put a 550-horsepower 377 cubic inch V8. Once
GM brass caught wind of the program, they shut it down. Of the 125
planned cars, only five were built. They were briefly raced, with
one even winning at Watkins Glen in 1963.
For consignment, a 2011 Corvette Grand Sport that is bathed in the
"it "color just like the 5 cars that raced in times of yore. With a
ground effects package, engine dress up kit and now all LED
lighting just throw in the red stripes, so we know who you are and
you're off to the races.
Exterior
2011 was a year in which the C6 design was looking more and more
European sculpted by the wind and not a computer. Excellent
fiberglass is all bathed in Jetstream Metallic Blue Tintcoat and
the paint just sings on this machine. No hidden headlights, a
throwback to the originals with the Corvette Shark gilled cove, and
rear greenhouse glass along with the iconic round taillights deeply
inset onto the neoprene tall rear bumper. The hash marks are on the
driver's upper front quarter. All lights exterior and interior are
now LED. 4 exhaust pipes peek out the rear roll pan and are
centered in the bottom of the rear. 18-inch polished wheels are
upfront, and 19 inch is reserved for the backs.
Interior
Stepping inside away from the Jetstream Blue exterior, we can calm
down our eyes a bit with some tasteful black upper and titanium
gray lower door panels with a nicely molded armrest. The light gray
leather buckets hold you in the car nicely, and back bolsters keep
you in them. A center console also in gray with black sides, runs
from the middle of the seats. A nicely curved design dash has all
the essentials for creature comforts and vitals monitoring. A pop
for the rear greenhouse glass reveals a nice storage area covered
in like new charcoal carpeting.
Drivetrain
With this version we have the 6.2-liter V8 with EFI and its rated
at 430 horses. On back is a 6L80E 6-speed automatic paddle shifter
optioned with a rear axle of 3.42 and limited slip. Then the engine
dress up kit is on and it uses some molded plastic in blue to make
up several coverings as well as adding an airbrushed injection
covering complete with ghost flames...NIFTY!
Undercarriage
Simply put, showroom underneath. New ceramic brakes and rotors
along with new rubber are seen and cast aluminum C5 suspension
keeps the rubber on the road. New shocks and all looking great
underneath.
Drive-Ability
Clean and mean for this machine which fires right up and runs like
the wind. Needless to say, it not only looks perfect but runs like
that too!
A showpiece in showroom condition ready to go and show. Excellent
amazing paint, tasteful interior, and I see a 2011 Grand Sport in
someone's future. Feel the vibe! Grab this tiger by the tail while
it lasts.
