Vehicle Description
1957 Chevrolet 210 Station Wagon
Chevrolet marketed its mid-priced line as the "210" series from
1953 to 1957. The '57 210 shared bright body-side trim with the
top-of-the-line Bel Air but lacked its gold-tone accents and ribbed
aluminum body-side 'wedges'. All 1957 210s were closed models; 1953
was the only year for a 210 convertible. However, Chevrolet's
sporty two- and four-door hardtop styles were offered as 210
models.
Back in 1957 a couple from Ft. Lauderdale Florida walked into a
dealership and purchased this 1957 210 station wagon. Sadly, the
husband passed away in 1960 so it became the wife's car. She drove
it sparingly until her passing in 1996. It then went to another
owner who stored it and never had it licensed. In 2012 it began the
complete restoration process and since has been garaged and
trailered to AACA events. A trailer queen with a neat history.
Exterior
If you ever wanted a brand new 1957 Chevy 210 wagon here is your
chance. Attention to originality and meticulous details were gone
over prior to every show this car attended. Tropical Turquoise
mixes with India Ivory to cover straight totally rust-free steel.
From the gold accented badging, large chrome bumper complete with
rubber tipped Dagmars and gold egg crate grille, which above
resides a single round headlight in a beautifully shaped chromed
bezeled visor, I cannot find any faults on this car. A trim spear
starts on the side front quarter and moves its way rearward until
it hits the rear quarter and explodes into a fin-like panel in the
ivory bordered by more chrome trimmings. This accentuates the rear
fins where you'll see like new showroom chrome bezels for the
crescent shaped taillights that are at the bottom of the fins and
just above another perfect bumper on back. A lowering tailgate and
rising upper window and a stainless-steel roof rack to help with
all that travel cargo.
Interior
Swing open one of the 4 large doors, and we can see restored door
panels in charcoal and ivory vinyl with very clean and pristine
handles and cranks. A full bench seat in front, and it has been
recovered in the correct pattern 2 tone Charcoal and Ivory as well.
Seat belts have been added and appears as the carpet has been
replaced as it shows clean and stain and fade free. Upfront the
dash and steering column has been sprayed with a shiny gray paint.
Gauges and all shapes are original configuration, and the radio is
in the center however no heater as this car was to be used in Ft.
Lauderdale, FL. An original Two Ten logo steering wheel shows in
perfect silver and sports a circular inner horn ring. Also, a full
metal jacket black dash top is seen and a Kleenex dispenser hangs
below the dash. Another nice rear bench is seen in the back, and
the cargo area has been rubberized with perfect flooring.
Drivetrain
Inside the engine bay which has seen a respray to match the
exterior, we are met with an V8 engine which has a 283ci
displacement. It appears as showroom with bowtie orange/red painted
block intake and valve coverings. Topped with a single 2-barrel
carburetor, and backed by a 2-speed automatic Powerglide
transmission that is actuated by a tree shifter. The rear axle is
3.36 designation.
Undercarriage
Just as the top side is a work of art down below is perfect. No
dirt or splatters as this queen travels to shows in a trailer. It
is fully detailed prior to every show. Drum braking and a stock
exhaust are also in perfect condition.
Drive-Ability
My decoder took a group of visitors we had here for a career day at
Classic Auto Mall and they all packed in, even in the back! He
reported smooth acceleration, smooth automatic shifting, and bias
free braking even with it fully loaded. Our guests who were silent
on their way to visit us, were reported to not stop talking on
their way home, it was that good! The tube radio was recently
restored and a new speaker was installed.
With 66,607 miles which are consignor-stated original miles, a
concours restored 210 Wagon. AACA Junior 2016, AACA Senior 2017,
AACA Grand National 2018, and AACA Grand National Senior 2019 SO it
has the chutzpah. Add to all that, in 2020 at the AACA National
Convention, it was selected as the top Chevy in the country with
the 2019 Senior Chevy Award. This award was not just for 1957
Chevrolets, but for all years and models. It also has curb appeal
that goes on for miles, so it will be your choice, trailer it or
enjoy it on a Sunday drive, it can handle either...and then some.
Absolute perfection on every inch of this car.
This amazing example also come with a matching 1957 Mini that was
restored as well.
