The 1971 model year would spell the end for many classic performance car names, and Plymouth’s deluxe GTX became a mere styling option name on theRoad Runner after this season concluded. This B-body from that final year of Plymouth’s “strong gentleman’s muscle car” is listed as a one-of-one producedas equipped in the Chrysler Registry. Moreover, the GTX model was only offered one year in the updated 1971 G-series body seen here. Documented with twobroadcast sheets, this car has been test-driven a mere 15 miles since receiving its comprehensive restoration. While you could still get a substantial number of horsepower options, this car’s clean appearance will be matched by its manners. Under the performancehood is the matching-numbers U-Code 440 CI Super Commando V-8 engine, which features the original exhaust system with new mufflers, a dual-snorkel aircleaner and factory air conditioning, which could not be optioned with the other available, multiple-carbureted powerplants, and the likely reason for thisengine choice. This 370 HP powerplant is backed by a 727 automatic transmission and a differential with highway-friendly 3.23 gears. One unique aspect of its as-built packaging is the factory color combination of GW3 Sno-White paint with a True Blue P3B5 interior. Inside are vinyl and clothseats, including a front bench with center armrest/buddy seat, a Chrysler Solid State radio, podded dash cluster with 150 MPH speedometer, and a Tuff Wheelthree-spoke sport steering wheel. Outside, the hood with its 440 callouts is accented with black graphics, plus chrome GTX tags, lower-body pinstripe andchrome exhaust exits. In keeping with its subdued theme, this car rides on a set of painted steel wheels with small hubcaps and Goodyear Polyglas G70-14tires. There is a full-size spare, also in correct body color, in the trunk. Stored in a climate-controlled facility, this very fresh Mopar will be accompanied by itsChrysler Registry report upon its sale. A true final year model with a special color combination and enjoyable accessories, this GTX is simply waiting to bedriven.
