Gateway Classic Cars Milwaukee is excited 1980 Shay Model T
Replica. The Shay Motors Corporation was formed in 1978 to build a
modern- day replica of the Model A. Working directly with the Ford
Motor Company using the same 2.3 4cyl. engine and chassis used in
the Ford Pinto. The Shay Model A was built with a fiberglass body
with five different body styles. Offerings included a single spare
tire mount, dual spare tire mount, rear mounted spare, pickup truck
and panel truck. The Model A was built by teams of four people
limiting the number of cars being built. The Shay Model A was
distributed through actual Ford dealerships. In the end Shay could
not keep up with demand and only one-half of the target goal of
10,000 units was produced before the Shay Motors Corporation went
belly up. This 1980 Shay Ford Model A Replica is the dual spare
tire model. Painted in classic beige with black fenders and running
boards. The rumble seat is fully operational and highlights an era
gone by. Added exterior features include black wire wheels mounted
on wide whitewall tires, dual horns and pinstriping. The black
interior is appointed with a vinyl bench seat and modern gauges.
The 2.3 4cyl. engine is attached to a four-speed manual
transmission. The 12v electrical system creates the ability to have
period correct looking lights but more adequate lighting
capabilities not found on the original Model A. The Shay Model A
Replica has combined the nostalgic look of the original Model A and
paired it with a more modern engine and drivetrain. Making this
replica a blast to drive.
