Vehicle Description
Lot #371-1938 Chevrolet Race Car- According to reports and legend,
this "ol' 88" was the first Chevrolet to win a Nascar sanctioned
race and that was at Greenwood (SC) Fairgrounds Raceway on October
2, 1952 driven by Jesse Moore. Originally built by Wayne & Buddy
Reid of Abbeville, SC, it mostly ran the Greenwood track in the
'50's, reportedly placing top 3 in 28 of the 32 races it competed
in. It did not do well on asphalt tracks as the suspension was too
high. However, on the dirt tracks, it ran circles around the V-8
Ford's of the time.
Car was restored in 1992 and ran some vintage races, but has been
in a collection in Saluda, South Carolina. Car starts, runs, and
drives. It has a Serial number and a South Carolina title.
