Vehicle Description
This 1938 Ford Custom Coupe is the best of old school and subtle
upgrades. It has a sleek and lowered custom body with a classic
triple carb V8 leading the way. But it's also secretly rewarding
with features like four-wheel disc brakes and an overdrive
transmission.
There is an instant distinction about this coupe because it didn't
start out life as a coupe. It starts by realizing that the cab of
the '38 Ford pickup was actually quite sleek. In fact, the way it
tapers towards the front has been a reason why hot rodders have
been using this truck for generations. But this one takes it a step
further with a custom rear section that starts wide at the rear of
the cab and tapers inward as it goes towards the rear bumper. The
result is quite appealing as this unlocks a new wave-like footprint
that this body ever had before. Plus, this custom still gives you
all the best hot rod pieces, like the deeply channeled body, '32
Ford grille, and the frame color-matched in this sleek blue/gray.
There's a terrific red pinstriping package that has an artful
design on both the front and rear as well as highlighting the
ribbed steel in the body. And all those touches of red go great
with the wire wheels. So the full style shows off a coupe that's
both thoughtful and comprehensively custom.
The suicide doors lead to an interior that shows off more of the
custom style. It starts with bucket seats that use a classic hot
rod style lightweight frame, but within them is supple saddle
leather. These even have premium details like diamond stitch
patterns and good leg bolstering. The center console, headliner,
floor mat, door panels, and even the flat-bottom sport steering
wheel were all done to match. Lexan windows, LED lights, a Lokar
floor shifter, and New Vintage USA backlit gauges are part of
well-placed upgrades that give the build a solid and confident
feel.
The engine was made to be on display, and you can see that with the
red valve covers and a block painted in the car's blue/gray.
Sitting up front is proper Ford V8 power, but since this is a
unique hot rod, they didn't use a flathead. This is a later and
larger 292 cubic-inch Y-block V8. It has a great classic look with
a vintage Edelbrock intake and a triple carb setup for show. Plus,
there are great modern upgrades like an alternator, PerTronix
ignition, a newer water pump, aluminum radiator w/electric fan. As
you look underneath, you'll see a strong custom frame, triangulated
four-link rear, and adjustable coilovers. And upgrades like the
four-speed automatic transmission w/overdrive and four-wheel disc
brakes make for an all-around solid driver.
Complete with build receipts and restoration photos, this is the
carefully crafted build that delivers a very cool custom coupe. So
