Vehicle Description
Looking for all the world like a 5/8 scale C6 Corvette, this 2009
Saturn Sky is 2-seat roadster fun at a very affordable price. If
you're not feeling the love for a VW Beetle convertible or a little
Miata, this more masculine little chunk of hardware might be just
what the doctor ordered.
Arguably the more attractive of the Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice
twins, this Sky offers a sinister Black Onyx color that gives it a
more grown-up look that works rather well. It's a shame Saturn and
Pontiac disappeared, but at least they left some awesome cars
behind like this wherein you can see what happens when brave
designers throw caution in the wind and take some calculated risks.
These spirited and unique cars were built with passion and lots of
heart, pragmatism took a backseat to the unbridled love of
motoring. And that's precisely why the Sky is such a hit with
hotrodders and classic car enthusiasts. This particular Texas
roadster has always lived an easy life under the tutelage of its
original owner, and like most of its siblings, it was a weekend car
that served its purpose as a warm weather toy for sunny days and
easy drives. Like most Saturns, the body is mostly plastic
composite, so dents and rust are a non-issue and the sucker fits
together extremely well. The big headlights make a design statement
that helps tie it to corporate cousin Corvette, while a few flashes
of chrome like the grille, door handles, and taillights surrounds
dress it up. Look closer and you'll find wonderful details like the
twin pods on the deck lid that sweep up behind the headrests, the
cool trapezoidal back-up lamp in the rear diffuser, the rear
spoiler wing, and the vents in the grille and hood, which, even
though they're largely superfluous they still look super cool. As
one would expect with so few miles, the car is fantastic condition,
pretty much as close to new as you'll ever find on the market
again.
The two-tone red-and-black interior delivers a far more upscale
look and feel thank you'd expect from Saturn, a reflection of GM's
newfound commitment to quality in the wake of the reorganization.
The sculpted leather bucket seats are supportive for energetic
driving and show minimal wear, again a testament to the care this
roadster has received. Just about everything was included with the
Sky, and this one came loaded even further with the optional
Premium Trim Package, with a laundry list of options including A/C,
power windows, locks, seats, and mirrors, multiple airbags, a big
set of easy-to-read analog gauges, cruise control, and a tilt
steering column, so it's easy to find exactly the right position. A
powerful AM/FM/CD/AUX/Satellite stereo system makes plenty of sound
even with the top down and the engine singing and the engine snaps
through the gears of the 5-speed manual transmission nestled inside
the factory center console. The black convertible top flips up or
down in seconds, there's a factory alarm and remote keyless entry
that controls it, and just like the exterior, the cabin looks
largely untouched. There's not a ton of room in the trunk, but if
you've got a roadster, you likely already know how to pack
light.
This one carries a 2.4L I4 DOHC VVT Ecotec engine, and with less
than 3000 pounds to haul around, performance is energetic. It won't
pin your ears back, but it's as much fun to zip through corners on
your favorite country road as a more powerful car, and it's also
far more efficient. With just 9,519 original miles on the clock,
it's also quite fresh and if anything, these engines have proven
themselves to be rather tough, so go ahead and enjoy yourself.
Other than a cold air intake system that was wisely added to help
it breathe, it's totally stock and impeccably maintained, and even
the exhaust has a spirited note that makes it a lot of fun to
explore the upper ranges of the tachometer. The all-independent
suspension was built for fun, agile but not abusive, so it's
comfortable enough for daily driver transportation, but exciting
enough if you save it for weekend fun. Power 4-wheel disc brakes, a
tight power rack-and-pinion steering system, and a spotless
undercarriage round out this little car's list of virtues. Oh, and
it also gets beautiful 18-inch chrome-plated wheels with aggressive
245/45/18 Goodyear Eagle radials that give it one heck of a
footprint.
Lots of fun, very affordable, and economical to own, this Saturn
Sky is the ideal example of fun on a budget. Call today!
