Vehicle Description
The 1968 Mercury Cougar is known for being a premium cousin to the
Mustang, and this one really seems to love that pony car
connection. Because beneath the fancy styling is a well-built 351
V8 that loves to gallop.
The '68 Mercury Cougar added some sophisticated style to give an
added sophistication to a Mustang-sized coupe. The front has a bold
hidden headlight setup. The rear glass was sunken into the bodywork
for a hint of flying buttress. And there was an extra flare in the
fenders and rockers. You can see it all quite well on this example
because the lines are quite crisp. The factory-correct maroon paint
does a good job of taking red to a more sophisticated level. It has
a good gloss that will get you respect at stoplights, but it's far
from perfect. You view the value price as a way to budget for
upgrading to a super slick shine, but for many of us, it's already
attractive because we want the freedom to have fun in-between the
stoplights. And you'll see that's the larger purpose of this coupe.
The Mustang-style mag wheels show that this Cougar is playful, and
you'll see the attitude even more under the hood.
A black interior goes nicely with the dark hue of maroon, and the
trim tag tells us it was born this way. A clean set up with newer
seat covers, dash pad, and carpeting gives this a comfy style. And
you'll appreciate details, like the working courtesy lights. Bucket
seats, a floor shifter, a grippy steering wheel, and large gauges
are all art of this driver-oriented setup.
The engine bay shows off this Cougar's upgraded heart. This was
born a 302 machine, but it's now got a 351 cubic-inch V8. This has
been upgraded further with Trick Flow aluminum heads, a Holley
four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock Performer intake, cast valve
covers, and long tube headers. Plus, the upgraded cam helps make a
sweet-sounding dual exhaust. You'll even spot good supporting
components like an MSD ignition and an aluminum radiator. It's a
strong-running motor, and it's part of a package that likes to let
you feel the road. But it also has the right driving features, like
a three-speed automatic transmission and newer BF Goodrich
T/As.
This is the cool Cougar with a meaner growl. That's a lot of fun in
a distinctive vintage package. Call today!!!
