Vehicle Description
2007 Mazda MX5 Grand Touring
Manufactured at Mazda's Hiroshima plant, the MX-5 debuted in 1989
at the Chicago Auto Show and was conceived and executed under a
tightly focused design credo, Jinba ittai, meaning "oneness of
horse and rider". Widely noted for its small, light,
technologically modern, dynamically balanced, and minimally complex
design, the MX-5 has frequently been called a spiritual successor
to the 50s and 60s Italian & British roadster sports cars.
Generations were internally designated with a two letter codes,
beginning with the first generation, the NA.
A third generation, NC, roadster for consignment in excellent
overall condition. This one is bathed in True Red and has black
wrap on the roof and side mirrors. With low low miles, 11,833, and
a few bolt-on upgrades to the suspension and exhaust this is the
"must have it" MX5, interested parties, hold tight and read on!
Exterior
True Red in near showroom condition drapes this British inspired
sports car. This is the first year for the retractable hardtop and
our consignor has chosen to wrap it and the side mirrors to set off
the red, (all of which is easily removable). The front airdam sits
below a pair of wrap-around headlights and between the foglights.
This gives the front of the car a look as though it's almost
smiling at us. The rear of the car mimics this same design with
Euro style taillights and twin chrome exhaust tips that peek from
below the front bumper.
Interior
Black leather heated bucket seats flank a long smooth black
console. These buckets, like the exterior, are in near showroom
condition with only the driver's outer bolster showing very minor
wear. The long swooping console holds power window switches, a
small storage compartment, the emergency brake handle and the gear
shifter. A black leather wrapped steering wheel holds controls for
the radio and cruise control. This fronts a sporty dash that
contains various gauges to monitor engine functions. In the center
of the dash is the Bose premium stereo that is equipped with
AM/FM/CD/Satellite capabilities. Below this are the dials for
climate control as well as the heated seat switches, all part of
the Grand Touring package. Black carpet floods the cockpit and is
protected by a pair of black MX-5 floor mats.
Drivetrain
Under the hood lies the heart of this tourer, a 2.0 Inline
4-cylinder powerplant that makes 168hp and is fed via EFI. A
6-speed manual transmission backs this engine up and sends power
back to a limited slip 4.10 geared rear axle. All nearly showroom
new here.
Undercarriage
As if the upside was not enough, now this side can bring stars to
your eyes... Nary a hint of road dirt or corrosion this all appears
almost factory new, with components in black, natural finish and
aluminum. 4 wheel independent suspension is seen and each corner
sports Tein Performance coil springs. Single exhaust snakes its way
rearward and exits through a performance stainless steel muffler
system. Power disc brakes are noted on all 4 corners with the
calipers being covered with Brembo dress up kit. Power steering
makes the drive a relative ease for any back road or canyon you
wish to carve. Note that the original coil springs and exhaust is
included with the purchase.
Drivability
This little sports car fired right up and ran like a champ on the
test track with all functions working just great. The power
retractable hardtop made things a breeze to go from air-conditioned
comfort to open air enjoyment. The suspension and exhaust upgrades
make the car handle like it's on rails and it has a noticeable but
not too loud performance growl.
The ad slogan went ZOOM! ZOOM! and this car does. I'll leave you
with words by automotive critic Jeremy Clarkson. "The fact is that
if you want a sports car, the MX-5 is perfect. Nothing on the road
will give you better value. Nothing will give you so much fun. The
only reason I'm giving it five stars is because I can't give it
fourteen!"
