For Sale: 1959 Chevrolet Corvette in Charlotte, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

The Street Rod movement, keenly summarized as traditional customization with modern amenities, began gaining popularity about 50 years ago. And today, with technology that continuously blurs the lines between transportation and art, building a storied classic into a custom-fabricated trophy chaser has become one of America's favorite pastimes. But even with top-tier customizers and a who's who list of extreme kits, there's still something to be said about originality. And even though many companies create purpose-built sculptures that headline shows across the globe, many of them are about as stylish as a Malaise Era pickup. Well, as you can probably see, this incredible Corvette is the elixir for street and show sickness. A magazine-featured custom that was built to show AND cruise, it combines picture-perfect aesthetics with serious mechanical prowess. And if you're looking for invigorating performance, a lust worthy parade queen or just a cool car to own and enjoy, it's a great candidate for your next classic!

VETTEROD DONE RIGHT!

For gearheads, there's something very primal about a car that rolls low, sports a big motor and features an open cockpit. But, like the technology needed to successfully flaunt that appearance, the appeal of this striking VetteRod runs much deeper than inquisitive novelty. Created by Autokraft Race Cars and Restorations in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, this unique Chevy is the product of a ground-up, no-expense-spared build that utilized entirely new components. The car's topless roadster body is high quality Downs Industries composite that's been tastefully customized in the name of both form and function. Everything shines street rod sophisticate under smooth Bentley Meteor Blue two-stage. And today, the car rolls as a Goodguys Street Machine of the Year Top 10 Finalist that, in addition to being featured on the cover of Vette Magazine, thoroughly impressed in Goodguys AutoCross competition.

So, it looks good and runs great, but what of the details? The car's low-slung profile kicks off with a traditional grille which, centered in a modified valance, complements highly polished bumpers that are trimmed with trick LED driving lamps. Refashioned headlight buckets hang modern torches opposite clean coves that have been finished with blue carbon fiber inlays. A sculpted hood leads the eye to a custom windshield that's been carefully cut and generously laid back between hand-fabricated A-pillars. Modern mirrors reflect a fixed Speedster Deck Lid that, before being carefully customized, was cribbed straight from a sixth-generation Corvette. And at the back of the car, custom CNC-ed bumpers frame integrated Bentley exhaust tips and a recessed tag frame.

PROFESSIONALLY BUILT LS3

Since the plan was to build this world class Vette with entirely new components, outfitting its smooth engine bay with a modern LS mill was likely an easy decision to make. That said, a custom this extensive calls for something a little more capable than mere plug-and-play power pulled from an incapacitated donor car. So, the builders contacted a professional engine shop and ordered a hearty LS3 crate motor that features forged internals, over 500 horsepower and over 500 lb./ft. of torque. At the front of the block, short air tubes funnel a perfect amount of oxygen between remote Spectre filter elements and a trusty GM throttle body. That wind mixes with fuel in a factory LS3 intake, on its way to aluminum GM cylinder heads that are dressed in modern Corvette rail covers. Coated headers crawl around short plug wires. And a big aluminum radiator fronts two SPAL puller fans.

THE BEST OF EVERYTHING

One of the best aspects of using Downs fiberglass is the fact that the company automatically incorporates mini tubs into their bodies. And naturally, those tubs pair exceptionally well with a sturdy Downs Industries rear suspension that's built around a proven Ford 9-inch. That axle, finished with Strange 3.73 cogs, trails a short Driveline Specialists driveshaft, which trails a tough Tremec T56 6-speed. That gearbox hangs between stiff Art Morrison rails, which are led by an independent Art Morrison front-clip. Turns come courtesy of power rack-and pinion steering. Solid stops are provided by powder-coated sixth-generation Corvette calipers, which squeeze a quartet of cross-drilled rotors. Custom exhaust roars through polished Magnaflow mufflers. And power scorches the pavement through attractive Forgeline ZX3s, which spin 275/35ZR18 General Exclaim UHPs 325/30ZR19 General Exclaim UHPs.

THE ART OF CUSTOM

Constructed over the course of six months by the pros at Clinton, Iowa's Upholstery Unlimited, this roadster's tasteful interior is nothing short of show stopping! Custom-shaped Corbeau seats ride firm under custom-dyed four-point harnesses. A two-tone dash tilts sharp New Vintage USA telemetry and modern pushbutton ignition above a sculpted console that's finished with blue carbon fiber inlay. A trick Hurst shifter grooves between custom side panels that, like the rest of the cockpit, feature a slick combination of leather, aluminum and carbon fiber. Plush carpet frames muted Wilwood pedals and a muted Safecraft fire extinguisher. The driver spins a serious Momo wheel around a tilting column. The passengers stow essentials in a wide truck that's revealed by custom hinges. And a custom Alpine stereo bumps crisp speakers, a 1,530-watt Audison amp and 10-inch Focal subs that are housed in a custom-tuned enclosure.

Plenty quick and plenty cool, this exclusive Corvette is an excellent combination of easy performance and timeless aesthetics. What other niche allows you to own a classic that can star at shows AND politely drive you home? Call, click or visit https://www.RKMotors.com and stage a bid for this bad bowtie!
