Vehicle Description
1973 Plymouth Barracuda
You lying so low in the weeds
I bet you gonna ambush me
You'd have me down, down, down on my knees
Now wouldn't you, Barracuda? Oh......As the song by HEART goes, so
goes the overall look of the '73 Barracuda, so named after a
species of fish that are drawn to shiny objects. So too, you may be
with a beautiful example here at Classic Auto Mall. Go ahead...
take the hook!
Smack dab in the middle of the early 70's muscle car mayhem, we
find this consignment swimming around in our hallowed halls with
this Rally Red painted 1973 Plymouth Barracuda. This predator comes
with its original block and heads for the 340ci V8. An Edelbrock
intake and Holley carburetor, and nice black vinyl top, correct
rear quarter striping, and sweet muscle car design, looking like
it's right out of the 1973 Plymouth factory.
Exterior
The beneficiary of all panels stripped, filled where needed,
sprayed with Rally Red and iridescent black decals, I find myself
in muscle car heaven! Panels are straight, gaps are well minded and
overall, the exterior is straight and true. The black decal begins
just behind the long doors and continues to the rear quarter where
it takes a sharp downward turn, widens, then blasts a 340
designation before dying at the rear bumper. I'll call it 70's fab!
The black rear deck panel houses 4 round taillights and is framed
below by a small chrome bumper with rubber protection blocks on
either side, all in good condition. Badging back here shows a
little wear but is period correct and uses 'Cuda. Up front an
original split grille with black inserts and dual angled rearward
intake snouts funnel plenty of air to the underlying mill. Lest I
forget the roof is covered in pristine black vinyl all being good
for this finish, as well as all the glass and chromed surrounds
just on the edges of the roof. 14-inch Mopar rally wheels are on
front and 15 inch for the larger rears complete all 4 corners.
Interior
Excellent would best describe all surfaces in the passenger
compartment. All black vinyl shiny buckets, and a rear bench
feature tuck and roll inside panels and smooth vinyl bolsters. A
wood grained applique is on the dash panel which is complete with a
speedo, trio of gauges, (fuel etc), and chronograph clock. On the
Michelin man like steering column, which is topped by a 2 spoked
drilled black rimmed steering wheel is an aftermarket AutoMeter
tachometer neatly mounted. Also below the dash are a new duo of
gauges which show water temp and oil pressure. In front of this
small new cluster is a Hurst wood topped pistol grip shifter. New
like carpet in black floats under the seats while the headliner is
like new as is the dash top shows with no cracks or markings. Door
handles, locks, and smooth molded plastic with more 'Cuda badging
are on both sides of the buckets.
Drivetrain
The numbers matching 1973 340ci V8 engine has been refreshed and
sports a 4-barrel Holley carb feeds fuel to the mill through an
Edelbrock intake manifold. A numbers matching 4-speed A833 New
Process transmission behind this healthy mill. An 8-3/4 inch 3.23
Sure Grip rear throws power out to the rear tires and makes you go
forward...quickly.
Undercarriage
Peering underside, black floor pans, toe kicks, and rockers
peppered with black shiny unibody construction, framing,
suspension, and black painted exhaust are all in for the fight. I
see headers and Turbo mufflers all painted black. torsion bar front
suspension, and leaf spring rear suspension are seen under here.
Also, power front disc brakes and rear drum brakes are mechanically
sound. No runs no drips no errors as they say.
Drive-Ability
An overall good experience with the nicely powered 340ci V8, nice
interior, and all working inside and out. A quick starter, a quick
accelerator, and smooth shifting from the 4-speed and this one is a
quickie, as well as offering up a big car ride for the cruise
section of the test drive.
A very well done, with little fault to be found throughout muscle
car. Excellent Rally Red paint, iridescent black stickers, like new
interior, and nice power curves, this is now right out of the early
1970's muscle car history book. Ooooooooh BARRACUDA! I'll dangle
the shiny keys to lure you in.
