This 1952 MG TD is said to have remained with the original owner until 1967 when it was purchased by the second owner and relocated from New York to Kansas before being placed in storage for several years. The current owner acquired the car in 2011 and commissioned over $177k of refurbishment work at Antique Auto Restoration in Seaside, California. Refinished in silver with a tan soft top over reupholstered red leather, power comes from a rebuilt 1.3-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The frame, suspension, steel wheels, and hubcaps have also been refinished, the brightwork refurbished, weatherstripping replaced, and the rear differential and dual carburetors rebuilt. This MG TD is offered on dealership consignment with service records dating back to 2011, a tonneau cover, and a clean California title.
The car was disassembled in 2011, and work over the following three years included media-blasting and repairing components, replacing the floors, refinishing the car in silver with red grille slats, and fitting a tan soft top. Hardware, bracketry, and other parts were refinished in black, and the brightwork was detailed and polished before reassembly. The steel wheels were media-blasted before being refinished in silver and wear chrome hubcaps with colored MG-stamped centers along with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Suspension components were disassembled, cleaned, and media-blasted before being sealed and refinished in semi-gloss black. The body bushings, suspension bushings, shock mounts, and brake lines were replaced in addition to other components detailed in service records presented in the gallery.
The seating surfaces in the cabin were reupholstered in red leather and fitted with replacement foam pads. The dashboard was also refinished in red, and replacement parts include the latches, hinges, and weatherstripping.
The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Jaeger instrumentation that includes a 100-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges in the center switchgear cluster. The two main gauges have been serviced, and the odometer shows just over 6,200 miles. Approximately 400 miles were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 1.3-liter inline-four was disassembled in 2012 and has been rebuilt as well as refinished. Additional work included refurbishing the carburetors, rebuilding the starter and generator, and replacing the ignition components, valve guides, fuel pump, and battery.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The differential was rebuilt in 2013, and the frame was media-blasted and refinished at that time. Additional photos of the underside, suspension, and wiring are presented in the gallery below.
