Vehicle Description
When the time came for Ferrari to follow up on the enormously
successful 308 GTB/GTS series, engineers chose to focus on refining
the formula that served them so well since the late 1970s as the
best-selling model in company history. For the new 328, much of the
308's chassis, engine, and body styling carried over, but nearly
every corner of the car was tweaked. Central to the new model was
the 3.2-liter fuel-injected V8 with four valves per cylinder and
Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. It paired with a 5-speed transaxle
as before, though the chassis now featured quicker steering, a
lighter clutch, and tuned suspension. The improvements made the 328
one of the best handling and most versatile Ferraris of the period,
and the styling refinements by Pininfarina freshened the already
iconic looks. Marque enthusiasts herald the 328 as the last of the
pure, "analog" Ferrari production cars, combining the best of the
308's character with improved refinement and build quality. This
beautiful and rare 1988 328 GTB is an exquisitely maintained
example finished in the seldom-seen shade ofGialloover natural tan
leather trim. It shows just over 24,000 miles from new and is a
2015 FCA Platinum Award winner. Out of 7,412 328s produced between
1985 and 1989, a mere 1,344 were fixed-roof GTB models. This
example has been in the same owner's care since 2014, and it boasts
extensive service history dating back more than twenty years. In
the mid-1990s, the previous owner acquired this 328 from the
legendary dealer Miller Motorcars of Greenwich, Connecticut. He was
a local resident and had the car serviced religiously at Miller,
including annual maintenance and regular timing belt changes
regardless of mileage. In the hands of the most recent owner, it
has accrued just a handful of additional miles, and it is superbly
preserved in original condition. The yellow paintwork (Glasurit
code FER102) is a rare sight on the 328, yet it suits the shape
quite well, particularly on this GTB, with its contrasting black
accents. The original paintwork is in excellent condition, and the
Scaglietti-built body exhibits factory-appropriate alignment and
panel fit. Color-keyed bumpers, black body trim, and correct
mirrors are all in superb order, including the original 16-inch
Cromodora alloy wheels fitted with OE-style Goodyear Eagle Sport
radials. The flat-face design of the wheels differentiates this as
a non-ABS model. In the cockpit, the comfortable, supportive
slimline bucket seats, iconic gated shifter, and Italianate driving
position all carry over from the 308. But the 328 adds a reworked
dash, and center console, new orange-accented instruments inspired
by the 288 GTO, and light-touch switchgear and HVAC controls shared
with the Mondial. This car's interior features beige leather on the
seats and door cards, with a dark chocolate brown leather dash,
carpets, and accent trim. The leather upholstery is in excellent
condition overall, though some slight fading and minor cracking are
noted on the driver's seat. The leather-covered dash is superb, as
is the original tweed fabric headlining. Controls and switches are
in good order, and this car features a rare, period-accessory
Blaupunkt Dallas SQM 88 "gooseneck" stereo tuner that's certain to
please any enthusiast of 1980's audio gear. Behind the driver rests
the iconic Ferrari V8 engine, designatedTipo F 105CBin the 328.
Displacement is 3,186 cc, and it features four-valves per cylinder,
Bosch Jetronic injection, new cams, and revised engine management.
The engine compartment is tidy, well-maintained, and true to
original specs, with excellent quality paint finishes, yellow zinc
plating, and clean bare alloy castings. It runs and drives
beautifully, with the smooth and rev-happy character expected of a
well-sorted 328. The underside is equally well-sorted, the clean
and orderly appearance attesting to this car's low mileage. A
complete set of original books, tool kit, and jack accompany the
sale, along with an extensive file containing service records,
ownership history, and awards, including a 2015 FCA (Penn-Jersey
Region) Platinum Award. This 328 GTB is an outstanding example,
representing the last of the classic, analog Ferraris -
unencumbered by electronic aides and ready for many more miles of
pure driving enjoyment in the finest Italian tradition. Offers
