Vehicle Description
This 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible has a terrific GT-style
appearance. As you take a closer look, you'll see that the
exterior, interior, motor, and suspension all take it beyond
classic pony car specs to deliver an upgraded performance machine.
And because this wants to be your ultimate drop-top driver, you
even get cold-blowing A/C.
The dark red color on this car is the product of quality respray
later in life, and the clearcoat luster loves to show off the
quality of the body panels. The reproduction trim tag says
"Special" for the paint. While we don't have any evidence this is a
factory designation, the way the metallic elements radiate in the
sunlight certainly makes this convertible look special. It's nicely
detailed in brightwork with everything from the bumpers to the
optional luggage rack giving off a proper shine. This has all the
best GT-style touches added, like the fog lights in the grille,
triple rocker stripe, full badging (including the gas cap,) and the
dual exhaust mounted through the rear valance. Plus, you get
something extra. There are some sporty upgrades from later in the
Mustang's first generation, like the Magnum 500 wheels and the
color-matched Boss-style front splitter.
The black convertible top has a great look against the red, and
with the flip of a switch, it powers down to reveal an even more
impressive black interior. The door panels, carpeting, and dash are
all in great condition. And this has the classic features you
really love, like the wood-rimmed steering wheel and the premium
"pony" package upholstery. There are also the right upgrades. You
have added comfort with an armrest center console, AM/FM digital
tuner w/cassette, and cold-blowing R134a air conditioning. There
are also the right features to remind you this is a speedy pony
car, like the Hurst Promatic shifter and the classic Rally Pac with
clock and tach.
The engine bay is a clean and mean look because you have a tidy and
color-matched inner fenders, and those are joined by the added
tubular bracing, including the Shelby-style Monte Carlo bar. At the
center is a well-done 289 cubic-inch V8. This has been upgraded
with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor w/electric choke,
Edelbrock intake, Ford Motorsport valve covers, and an aluminum
radiator to help keep the full package running cool. You're also
going to want to check out the undercarriage photos. This
exceptionally fresh look to the suspension shows a big investment
here that will give you added confidence on the road. Plus, it's a
tighter handler with newer bushings, a thicker front sway bar,
upgraded rear sway bar, and traction bars. Add in a three-speed
automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, and upgraded
front disc, and you really see how this is a sports car that's
great for anytime driving.
This Mustang convertible has been upgraded for power, flair, and
comfort. That's why you know it's an irresistible total package.
