1959 DeSoto Fireflite finished in Purple with White interior.
Powered by a 383c.i V8 and backed by a Torqueflite push-button
3-speed automatic transmission. The engine features a 4bbl
Edelbrock carburetor, Edelbrock performer intake manifold, and
Edelbrock air cleaner. Features on this car consist of; dual
exhaust, power steering, independent front suspension, Chrome
Hubcap wheels with whitewall tires. The 1955-1960 DeSoto started
1955 with what was considered a new "forward-look" design compared
to its previous years. The design was a success and the car more
than doubled in sales in 1955. With a few models available, the
high-line car was the Fireflite. Overall, the look of all models
was that of two-tone paint and lots of showy trim pieces. Most
cars, especially the Fireflite, had many features that would have
made any automaker envious at the time. 1956 featured an update to
the "forward-look" design and upgraded the car's electrical system
to 12-volt, making it more functional. Larger tailfins were added
in 1957 to go along with the "fin wars" that were happening at the
time. Hard times hit in 1958 and public interest in the DeSoto
brand fell. Through the hard times, the Fireflite remained the
high-line car for the brand and they made it through. Once again,
in 1959, the car was redesigned and featured large protruding
bumpers, longer tailfins, and full-length color panel strips. The
Fireflite name ended in 1960 though some 1961 models were created
based on the Fireflite design. After the fall of the Fireflite,
DeSoto was on its way out of business by 1961. For more information
