Gateway Classic Cars of Indianapolis is proud to present this
absolutely stunning 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396. This is the
real deal! True 138 car! 1966 saw a complete restyle of the
Chevelle on the previous frame that included smooth contours, a
broad new grille and bumper treatment, and curved side windows. The
new body reflected the "Coke bottle" body shape that became the fad
for American cars in the mid-1960s. In 1966, the Chevelle SS396
became a series of its own, using series/style numbers 13817 and
13867. The SS name was switched to SS396 to highlight the 396
cubic-inch engine, and the 283 and 327 cubic-inch engines were no
longer offered with the SS package. Suspension upgrades included
higher-rate springs, recalibrated shocks, and thicker front sway
bar. The base SS396 big-block was rated at 325-horsepower, with 360
and 375-horsepower engines optional. Under the hood of this beauty
is the rebuilt 375hp 396ci. V8 mated to the smooth shifting 4-speed
manual transmission. Both of which are original and numbers
matching as stated by the owner. Car received a new clutch roughly
150 miles ago. Painted in Marina blue with black vinyl top and
matching black interior. Cragar wheels pull it all together. This
car really is beautiful and pictures just don't do it justice! This
is 1966 Chevelle SS 396 is featured in our Indianapolis showroom
