For Sale: 1967 Shelby GT500 in Halton Hills, Ontario

Vehicle Description

1967 Shelby GT500 For Sale - Factory White 4spd, Restored By Legendary Motorcar LMC is proud to offer for sale this 1967 Shelby GT500. Although the Shelby GT350, introduced in 1965, had helped boost the Mustang's reputation as a serious performance car, Carroll Shelby realized that the hard-edged and high-strung GT350 was not what everyone wanted. He saw an opening in the market for a relaxed, big-engine Grand Touring car, and with the launch of the newly restyled Mustang for 1967, he saw his opportunity. His new model, dubbed the GT500, was fitted with the "Police Interceptor" engine, a 428 cubic inch, 2x4 bbl carbureted version of the medium block FE engine. It had a smaller bore and a longer stroke than the similar 427 cubic inch racing engines found in the GT40s that had won Le Mans in 1966 and would again in 1967. This made it quieter, more reliable, more tractable, and, most importantly, cheaper to manufacture than the 427 engines. Also, in order to differentiate it from standard Mustangs, the GT500 was equipped with two central-mounted fog lamps, 1967 Mercury Cougar tail lamps, plenty of functional scoops, and a classy stripe package. Shelby himself called it the "first car (he) was ever really proud of." 2,048 were produced in 1967. This particular '67 GT500 has received a full nut and bolt rotisserie restoration right here at LMC. It is finished in the iconic factory delivered Wimbledon White with Blue stripes over a black interior just as it left Shelby American. Starting with an extremely original car, the very orginal body was striped to bare metal and every component re-finished to oem style standards. The body was block sanded and gaps fitted in order to achieve a laser straight paint job better than it had ever left the factory. The paint has also been wet sanded and polished in order to achieve a concours quality paint finish. Underneath is finished as it left the factory with red oxide primer floor pans with body color overspray, correct paint daubs and inspection markings. Under the hood, lies the 428ci Police Interceptor engine which has been rebuilt to stock specifications and is in excellent working order. Finishing the look of the engine is a litany of correct markings and stickers. It rolls on the famous 10-spoke aluminum Shelby wheels with appropriate Goodyear bias-ply tires. The 428 is managed via a four-speed manual transmission actuated with a beautiful chrome shift lever. The seats, carpets, dash, headliner, and inner doors are all stunning in black and are in outstanding condition. Given the car's intent as a Grand Tourer, the interior is also quite comfortable. Overall this Shelby could be said to be three things. First, it is an absolutely beautiful and very well-sorted classic car to drive. Second, it is an important piece of Shelby history and automotive history as a whole. And third, it is a first-class investment that, due to its condition and provenance, can only appreciate from now.
