Gateway Classic Cars of Scottsdale is pleased to feature this
second generation 1959 Ford Thunderbird marketed for sale with our
Arizona showroom, located in North Phoenix. The "Squarebird", as
the 1958-60 T-Birds were known, represented a sharp redirection
from the original 2-seat convertibles that were a sales success and
handily outsold Corvettes in the mid-50's. This was the baby-boomer
era though- an American consumer with growing families desired more
space in their vehicles for the whole family and their luggage.
Therefore, the sporty heritage of the original T-Bird had to be
refined for a little more practicality. This '59 comes painted in a
head-turning Dark Blue color with all kinds of stylish features to
set your eyes on from rear body fins to the wide pillar roof and
chrome dual taillight surrounds. A desirable "Continental Kit" or
sporty spare wheel carrier mounted on the back of the car adds to
the glamorous look of this Squarebird. Most Thunderbirds were
ordered with a 352 CID V8 which was rated at 300hp although the
weight of the car means you probably won't see a sub-10 second
0-60. That's ok though; this car was built to cruise. That's what
you'll get with a 3-speed automatic transmission that was recently
rebuilt (according to the seller) and shifts this Ford through the
gears with smoothness and purpose. Other recent maintenance records
the owner has on this T-Bird from the last few years would be a new
starter, rebuilt power steering, new radiator, shocks, and a
generator/voltage regulator. The interior of this '59 T-Bird
appears remarkably original with two-tone Blue vinyl bucket seats
up front separated by a center console, a large 3-spoke chrome
steering wheel with horn ring, gauge set with 140mph speedometer
and Ford "Magic Aire" controls for heat/ventilation. The only
visible upgrade looks to be the integrated "retro stereo" with
AM/FM/Cassette. Squarebirds like this one are desirable in the
collector car market and it's easy to see why as there was almost
nothing comparable on late 50's American showroom floors. Isn't it
time you bought something that'll get everyone's attention?! For
