Vehicle Description
Given to him by GM executive Jim Perkins, this is the car that
General Chuck Yeager drove to pace the Indy 500 in 1986. General
Yeager was one of the most decorated generals in history and was
the first pilot ever to break the sound barrier. After the race,
the pace car 'Vette was driven sparingly with regular service
intervals. It later went on display at the National Corvette Museum
and was there during 2014, the year of the famous sinkhole. 1986
marked the return of the Corvette convertible to the Corvette
lineup and the return of the Corvette to Indianapolis. The 1986
Corvette needed no mechanical modifications to pace the race. This
car still has the strobe lights, which are in working condition.
It's powered by a 350ci V8 engine paired with a 4-speed manual
transmission with electric overdrive and has 4,608 actual miles.
