The Starfire was built on the Super Eighty-Eight's 123inch wheelbase frame and was Oldsmobile's entrance into the personal luxury market. For the 1962 model year 2-door convertible Starfires only sold 1/5 as many units as the 2-door hardtop body style, making this Olds a real sought-after collectible. Painted in White with a Gray linear secondary color extending the entire length of the car, the Starfire is elegant and easy on the eyes. As with many vehicles from this era, the chrome is plentiful on components such as the bumpers, headlight surrounds, side moldings/trim/scripture and hubcaps. One of the most memorable features of this '62 Olds has to be the stylish separated rear taillights. Powering the Starfire is a 394 CID V8 motor tied to a 3-speed automatic transmission that the owner claims are original to the car but is unverified by Gateway Classic Cars. Oldsmobile represented 345 factory rated horsepower for the 1962 model year, which is a healthy number for this luxury 2-door convertible. We are unsure of the actual mileage or restoration status on this vehicle but the legal documentation we have for this car shows no more than three owners since new, with the current keeper picking up the vehicle in 2019.
