A different sort of GT car, but definitely still the product of Porsche’s crown-jewels division. The Cayman GT4 manages the neat trick of being both reassuringly familiar and radically different. Nobody with prior experience of ay GT-badges 911 is going to be surprised by the way the Cayman drives, or the clinical competence with which it deals with the all-important business of being thrashed around the racetrack. Yet, within the rarefied world of Porsche’s GT division, the very fact that the Cayman doesn’t have its engine hug behind its rear axle is a ground-shaking departure from the norm. The GT4 development team decided to go mainstream and give this car the 3.8-liter flat-six from the 911 Carrera S, allowing money to be spent on other areas including many of the same suspension components as the 991 GT3. The GT4 is a parts-bin special at heart, but what a bin. This GT4 is finished in a black exterior with a leather black interior featuring Guard’s Red stitching. It came with an extended range fuel tank, 2-zone auto climate control, smoking package, light design package, sport chronological package, carbon fiber interior package, and full bucket seats to keep you planted. The Cayman GT4 is almost a gateway drug, designed to introduce a whole new generation of potential addicts to one of the most expensive, and exciting, automotive addictions there is.
