1929 Packard 640 Custom 8 Club Sedan. Located near PORTLAND, OREGON.
Packard was the leading luxury car manufacturer in the world throughout the 1920's. By 1929, they dominated the luxury field with their combination of superlative engineering and fine craftsmanship. They were known as "The Soft Spoken Boss of The Road" for good reason.
While the early history of this 1929 Model 640 Club Sedan is unknown, it has been collector owned for many years. It underwent a full restoration to a very high level some years ago that shows beautifully today, with some recent enhancements.
When restored, the rust-free body was painted in Packard "Rubicelle Maroon." The paint shows well today with a deep shine and only minor indications of age. The fenders were recently repainted in correct black, along with the beltline molding, with correct Vermillion pin striping. It is an elegant, yet sporty combination that shows beautifully. The wood body framing is excellent throughout. Doors close easily and securely with no sag or wear. All chrome was re-plated atthe time of restoration and is bright and clean today. Just recently, the six wheels were repainted and wrapped with new Firestone 7.00 x 20 wide whitewall tires.
When restored, the interior was reupholstered in maroon mohair with proper style stitching. The genuine wood garnish moldings were refinished, including the beautiful original hand-made inlay on the rear door trim, created by Packard craftsmen in 1929. Just lovely. Wool carpeting in the rear compartment. A striking combination. All window glass was replaced during restoration and is clear, without flaws. The wood trim on the trunk rack was recently refinished and is gorgeous.

Mechanically, this Packard is excellent. Original 384 cubic inch straight eight engine was fully rebuilt, along with the transmission and drivetrain, which has now logged less than 2,000 miles since completion. Recently, the fuel tank was cleaned and a new electric fuel pump installed. The starter was rebuilt, along with the addition of dual 6 volt Optima batteries. This Packard starts easily, runs smoothly and quietly with plenty of power. Shifts crisply and the mechanically brakes are properly adjusted to stop well. Plenty of power to keep up with modern traffic. Nicely detailed under the hood. The undercarriage is clean and rust-free. The mechanicals have just been serviced and this Packard is ready to drive anywhere.
