A Prime Example for Vintage Touring & Concours Events
The 750F Giulietta Spider Veloce is an example of the ultimate
expression of Alfa Romeo's 1,300 cc masterpiece. Utilizing the
early SWB chassis and adding Weber side-draft carburetors,
performance camshafts, and a specific oiling system meant to handle
spirited use, the early Spider Veloces possessed a rare combination
of performance and style.
One of the finest restored and best driving Giulietta Veloce
Spiders we have offered!
According to Alfa Romeo Automobilismo Storico Centro Documentazione
(Historic Automobile Documentation Center), AR1495.04663 was
completed on August 27, 1958 and supplied to the Hoffman Motor Car
Company of New York. After sitting static since the 1970s, the
Veloce was quired by a Los Angeles-based Alfa Romeo enthusiast, who
commissioned a comprehensive restoration. Wearing
correct-as-delivered Black over Red livery, this particular Alfa
retains specific Veloce Weber sand-cast carbs and sump, while
correct materials, clamps, rubbers, decals, and more.. were used
where possible, resulting in a striking presentation. Ready for
immediate vintage touring or concours display, this spectacular
Veloce retains its matching-numbers engine, as documented by Alfa
Romeo and its original data tags.
Starting with the most desirable Giulietta Spider variant, the 750F
SWB Veloce, the vehicle's restoration was addressed with extreme
attention to detail, with recorded completion in mid-2015. In
addition to the spectacular overall fit and finish, unique
correct/original details found upon close inspection include:
Pirelli Cinturato CA67 tires, suspension components (which were
stamped at the factory with matching numbers), and its original
4-speed tunnel case gearbox. Original type clamps, engine
compartment details, Pirelli belts, Carello headlamps, and Trico
windscreen wiper inserts were employed.
The paintwork was applied to high standards, the body is straight
and solid with excellent panel fit and laser straight lines,
including the often-plagued trunk lid. Digital restoration photos
on file record a very solid and honest body completely stripped to
bare metal and refinished as delivered. A new wiring harness and
fuel tank were then fitted. The suspension bushings were renewed,
and the zinc / cadmium plating renewed where applicable. Followed
by rebuilt brakes and new top fitted. The original exhaust manifold
was restored, and a new exhaust system fitted from there on. Even
the Koni shock absorbers were refinished to the correct Girling
green with decals
The Veloce's cabin is similarly nice, with excellent presentation
and workmanship, the car is difficult to fault from both a
correctness and quality of work perspective. Correct rubber floor
mats remain in place, while the instruments and switches were
restored or replaced as necessary. The Alfa's original seat frames
were rewelded, powder coated and properly retrimmed with correct
material from the original supplier. The correct Bosch horn is also
in place, as are Borrani wheels (x5).
Stowed behind the seats, leather hold downs secure an original
concours-worthy tool kit and jack, along side a matching spare tire
assembly.
The engine compartment displays correct decals on the radiator and
intake hoses, brake fluid reservoir, original type hose clamps,
correct DCO3 carburetors. Every component was restored or replaced,
and the original data plates are still in place. The luggage
compartment is fitted with a proper rubber mat, along with the
paint manufacturer decal. Importantly, the trunk floor displays its
factory body number stamping 23638, which corresponds with 638
stampings on the trunk lid and front bonnet.
Engine number AR1315.31597 was rebuilt by an Alfa Romeo specialist
in Southern California and fitted with yellow fuel lines, proper
DCO3 carburetors, original Veloce cams, Veloce oil pan, and
original sand cast Veloce head. The transmission was also rebuilt,
and the cosmetic restoration performed by a Pebble Beach
award-winning restoration shop. The Giulietta runs and drives well,
makes excellent power, and the gearbox is a pleasure to use. The
brakes have good bite, the chassis is solid and tight with the
quintessential sports car feel that makes the Giulietta so
well-loved. A Fall 2020 inspection and scheduled service assures
excellent continued drivability.
The car is exceptionally complete, with original tool kit (with the
rare Alfa carb tools), original Alfa Romeo leather folio and
Instruction Book, original jack (with leather strap hold-downs),
matching spare tire, California "Yellow Plates" (previously
registered to the car), extensive restoration invoices and
chronological photographs in a large accompanying binder.
Prized for their eager and balanced performance, impeccable road
manners and reliability, Giulietta Spiders have made their way into
a number of the world's most important collections. Here is an
exceptional opportunity for a remarkably correct, complete, and
ideally spec'd 750F Giulietta Veloce for the most discerning
Alfista.
