Vehicle Description
1971 Dodge Demon Coupe
Glance through our sold inventory, and you'll undoubtedly find that
every single Dodge muscle we've offered has sold almost immediately
and for price guide-busting numbers. The reason is simple: these
are obviously awesome cars to drive. You don't need a big block in
a lightweight car to be a serious threat on the street.
With a numbers matching 340ci V8 backed by a 4-speed manual
transmission (how's that for unusual?), a Top Banana paint job with
matte black accenting that puts some restored Hemis to shame, and
loaded with options, this Demon is ripe for the picking. Get ready
to peel out and split your opponents in two...(Tongue firmly in
cheek!)
Exterior
This car is a legend in its presentation with Top Banana Yellow
paint, ultra-straight rust-free steel panels, a dual scooped hood
in matte black wide panels, and a black Go-Wing on the trunk.
Awesome pure 1970's side graphics show in thin black stripe which
widens ever so slightly as we move to the stern. The smiling devil
with his pitchfork M in the middle of the deMon badge was a hit on
the marketing end even though some Christain groups were against
it. A clean black grille, shiny bumpers and argent painted
surrounds for the headlights and grille work very nicely in unison
with the upper black hood and lower front Top Banana Yellow front
roll panel below the bumper. On back is a lineup of early "Mustang
style" taillights and backup lights again with some black on yellow
accenting across said panel. Raised white lettered Road Hugger
tires are sporting deep dish trim rings and a central lug hub on
gray punched Mopar Rallye steel wheels. Orange you glad I didn't
say banana??!
Interior
Simple black door panels have a Demon badge in the center of the
sill, and show some slight stitching to delineate the panels and
door pulls etc. Slipping inside sleek black vinyl high back bucket
seats with square and rectangular stitched inserts and smooth
bolsters form into a high back seamless headrest bucket seat for
the front chairs. In back a bench stretches from B pillar to B
pillar. A Hurst shifter is on the black carpeted hump and a glance
upwards from its wood ball topper we can see the original
configuration dash. A trio of round gauges sit within a half wood
applique panel with black vinyl covering below. The usual lineup of
knobs, ignition and buttons reside here and are all within
ergonomic reach of the driver. Original radio and climate control
levers are driver's right. A black textured pattern dash topper
with no cracks or tears tops this beautiful original dash. Speaking
of tripping, the headliner is nice and tight and also in black.
Drivetrain
A little bit of Lucifer in this numbers matching drivetrain, is the
key under this hood with a 340ci V8 struck with 2780930 indicating
an engine block between 1968 and 1973 in 340ci config. A single
4-barrel intake 3512100 complete with a Comp. Cam (.495i/.495e lift
and .235i/.235e duration). On back is another numbers matching
component for the 4-speed manual transmission which is an A833. The
rear axle is 8-3/4 inch with 3.91 sure grip gears.
Undercarriage
In this all pressed steel environment all is good on the surface
rust front with nearly none. Some undercoating is seen as well as
torsion bar suspension upfront, and leaf spring suspension for the
rear. Drum brakes are on all 4 corners and a dual Flowmaster
exhaust is installed. A new fuel tank is on the back underneath.
Filler up!
Drive-Ability
She fired right up and off to the test track where my partner in
crime and I had a fun filled muscle car drive. Everything worked
like a charm and we were able to "peel out" with this engine trans
combination with absolutely no monkeying around on the acceleration
front. Bias free braking is noted and just a full on throwback to
the days of lightweight muscle cars.
A fine example of some Mopar Muscle from the white hat boys of
1971. All looking good, all mechanically sound, and all like the
original. Great paint, great engine, great interior this car is
truly top dog..AH ha... I bet you thought I was going to say
banana, and I just did!
