For Sale: 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 in Orange, Connecticut

Vehicle Description

In the early 1960s, Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler Corporation slugged it out on the nation's drag strips, NASCAR ovals, and road-racing circuits. Manufacturers stuffed the largest-possible engines into their full-sized two-door cars to create true performance versions. To meet FIA and NASCAR displacement rules, these immensely powerful motors were limited to seven liters, or just over 427 cubic inches. Thus were born the 426-inch motors from Dodge and Plymouth, 421s from Pontiac, and 427s from Chevrolet and Ford.

This 1963-1/2 Ford Galaxie Fastback emerged from Ford in 1963, factory equipped with the year’s most potent drivetrain combination: the R-code 427 CI V-8 4-speed package. A comprehensive restoration brought this rust-free Ford back to its original full-size combination of understated style and race-winning performance. The Galaxie 500 stands as the most successful achievement of the Ford Total Performance Engineering program with NASCAR-proven power built into a passenger-car package for the early 1960's. The Ford FE engine that swept up every 1963 NASCAR 500-mile race is finished to a high level of original detail. With dual Holley 4-barrel carburetors on an aluminum intake manifold, solid lifters, 11.5:1 compression ratio and dual exhaust, the R-code 427 CI V-8 was conservatively rated at 425 HP at 6,000 RPM and 480 lb-ft of torque at 3,700 RPM.  The R-code big-block V-8 is backed by a BorgWarner 4-speed Toploader manual transmission that could propel the 3,600-pound Galaxie 500 down the quarter-mile in the 12-second range at well over 100 MPH. Checkered-flag 427 fender badges tell the real story of the otherwise low-profile Galaxie 500.

The restoration performed on this car is stunning and done to a very high level with all the right details. An original red car with a black interior this R code just screams speed. All of the paint brightwork and interior are factory correct and in near perfect condition. Mechanically the 427 engine with the dual Holley carburetors runs flawlessly and the 4 speed transmission shifts as it should. If you are looking for a piece of significant American muscle car history then this original R-code Galaxie should be considered. Contact us today for more information.
