For Sale: 1968 Oldsmobile 442 in Volo, Illinois

Vehicle Description

29,700 actual miles, body off frame restored to new or better. Bought from the son of the original owner in 2010. That owner took the car apart and took his time meticulously restoring it. Completed 2018 and only 750 miles put on since. I put 50 of those on myself. One of the best functioning old cars of the thousands I've driven, probably in the top 5. It did everything right- every bulb works, windows roll smooth, restarted when warm. It steered, stopped and accelerated flawlessly. Rode smooth, no vibrations, squeaks or rattles. I am always reminding people "these are old cars". I will call this a new car! Real 442, #s match throughout, awesome factory colors!

EXTERIOR: Factory Matador red- code RR which means red upper, red lower; no ugly vinyl top. Everyone, including myself loves the look of the dog dish wheels. The body is absolutely laser beam straight, every square inch of it. I don't see a ripple, a dent, a bubble or a crack. Everthing fits square and flush. Doors shut like a new car, even with the windows up. The windows roll up as easy as a hot knife through butter. The paint is polished out to a better than factory, smooth glossy finish. Very nice original stainless steel. Up front the grill, headlight bezels, bumper look new. The chrome grills on the hood look new, original antenna and remote mirror look great. In back the bumper, tail lights, moldings are all mint. Jambs are meticulous, new weatherstrips and window seals. New BFG tires. The rims are painted slick, hubcaps are excellent.

INTERIOR: Factory parchment color- code 947. All new premium reproduction Legendary interior. New cushions, upholstery and seat trim. New door panels, armrests, window cranks and handles. Headliner and visors are excellent, has Oldsmobile vanity mirror. Rear mesh speaker tray and trim are mint. New carpet and reproduction floormats. The seatbelts are pristine. Dash area is very clean and tidy. It has the rally pac gauges and tic toc tack. New glovebox liner, the owner's pouch is in there with manuals and protect-o-plate. It has all new wiring harness. Every bulb works, clock works.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: #s matching original 400-350 hp motor was rebuilt and balanced. The engine bay is meticulously restored to a concourse level. The motor is painted the proper bronze, all the nuts, bolts brackets are detailed. Restored air cleaner with new pie tin on top, original heat riser tubes still hooked up. It has a new cadmium plated power brake booster, new master cylinder. It has power steering. The squirters are hooked up. Detailed with correct dated spark plug wires, spring clamp battery cables with a Delco battery topper, GM hoses and clamps, hood insulation. It is show quality.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Super clean metal with a very neatly applied spatter finish paint. Bottom of the trunk lid and the jamb are as slick as the outside of the car. New wire harness, trunk light and power trunk release works. It has new decals weatherstrip and two piece rubber plaid mat. The spare is a new BFGoodrich tire on a red painted rim that matches the other wheels. The Jack assembly is complete and bolted down properly. There's even a car cover included.

UNDERSIDE: Theody was off the frame. Every component was restored. It has the Rally suspension which includes sway bars and boxed rear control arms. The front end was completely gone through- bushings, ball joints, tie rods etc. 4 New shocks. New premium reproduction Gardner exhaust system with trumpet tips through the bumper. Brake system was completely restored. Upgraded to disc in front, has stainless lines, e-brake assembly is complete. New fuel system- tank, sending unit and stainless lines. Looking up at the motor it is spotless, rebuilt starter. The matching vin # is stamped on the block behind the steering pump. The #s matching Turbo 400 automatic trans was rebuilt. The original tag is still riveted to the side of it. Original 3.08 posi rear was rebuilt and has limited slip tag still attached. The floors, inner rockers and quarters are clean metal. The rubber drain plugs are in place. The frame was prepped, painted and reunited to the body with new bushings.

This is one of the "exceptional ones"! All my years of experience feels strongly about it. The next owner will be very pleased everytime he or she looks at and even more so driving it!
