Vehicle Description
2011 BMW 328xi Sedan
The official founding date of the German motor vehicle manufacturer
BMW is 7 March 1916, when an aircraft engine manufacturer called
Bayerische Flugzeugwerke AG was formed. This company was renamed to
Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) in 1922. Aircraft engines,
motorcycles, and automobiles would be BMW's main products until
World War II. During the war, against the wishes of its director
Franz Josef Popp, BMW concentrated on aircraft engine production,
with motorcycles as a side line and automobile manufacture stopped
altogether. BMW's factories were heavily bombed during the war and
its remaining West German facilities were banned from producing
motor vehicles or aircraft after the war. Again, the company
survived by making pots, pans, and bicycles.
For consignment the all wheel drive version of the 2011 328i with
an x drive addition. This car will out handle many of its rivals of
the day and has enough room to haul around a family of 5. Alpine
White bathes the exterior which sports a sunroof, and saddle brown
leather interior. Sporty Steptronic shifting is available from the
6-speed automatic just for some extra performance between picking
up the kids, and the groceries. A sports car in suburban commuter's
clothing no one will know the difference.
Exterior
Nice tight gaps and aerodynamically designed grille and headlights,
integrated body matching bumpers and smooth framing for the windows
allow this car to slip right through the air that gets in its way
going forward. The iconic dual kidney bean grille surrounded by
some highlighting chrome is fronting the way otherwise the car is
clean and free from embellishments. A smoked glass sunroof is
installed and nice 17 inch wheels are on in alloy form and wrapped
by nice tires with plenty of miles left on them.
Interior
Stitched Saddle leather adorns the door panels, seats, and center
console. This mixes with wood applique from somewhere within the
black forest, and molded black vinyl. Seats are like new high back
buckets with headrests also in saddle leather, and power
adjustments. A nice original dash is upfront and houses all the
essentials and is fronted by a tech savvy steering wheel with
fingertip adjustments for phone and radio. A gray headliner
surrounds the sunroof, and all is tight and tear free. In back a
bench seat stretches across and has the option to seat a 3rd party
or lower the armrest for two to travel in ultimate comfort.
Charcoal gray carpeting presenting like new covers the floors and
all is looking really good!
Drivetrain
Under the hood is the 3.0-liter I6 power plant. This is fed by EFI
and has the 6-speed automatic transmissions on back with the
Steptronic manual automatic shift mechanism performed from the
stick shifter. A 3.91 rear axle allows for a low gas using highway
cruise. All is very clean under this hood.
Undercarriage
The Germans just love over engineering things and this
undercarriage is no exception. Plenty of ground effect smoothing
panels, and independent front suspension as well as 5 link with
coil springs for the rear suspension, and of course front and rear
wheel drives. Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability
Looking like your average sedan, until the X drive is realized for
its true potential, this car is like it's on rails. It smoked the
test track, and I had to go around several times as I had so much
fun. You just cannot break this car loose no matter how hard you
try, and it's amazing. Good solid braking, and tight steering and
everything was working as it should.
A surprise performer, not because of the fact of it being a BMW,
but the little x in the badge speaks very loudly on the performance
front, particularly handling. It's no slouch when it comes to pure
and certainly not underpowered with the I6. Nicely taken care of it
could be a great second car, and you can secretly use it on
weekends at your local performance track setup. You know, spend
some time with the wife...well...maybe not!
