For Sale: 1964 Plymouth Savoy in Charlotte, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

By the mid-1960s much of Detroit's number one marketing mantra was "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday". In fact, many brands worked overtime to promote their cars through drag racing, stock car racing and national endurance events. And while GM had decided to suffer a self-inflicted hiatus, Ford and Chrysler were bringing serious heat with the advent of aero cars, bigger engines and catchy terms like "Industrial Strength". This 1964 Plymouth Savoy pays homage to both the times and the terms by wrapping 572 cubic inches of brutal Cross-Ram Hemi in ominous Viper Red paint and a clean 'stripper' interior. Love MoPar power? Especially if it's draped timeless, purposeful aesthetics? Step right up and take a close look at this stunning Plymouth!

THE ART OF SUPER STOCK

The story of this superb Savoy's second-life begins deep in Minnesota, where the car's builder executed a multi-year rotisserie restoration that spared no expense turning metal into art. Of course, quality art is assured and expected when, in the builder's words, you start with no rot metal and spend roughly $30K on paint and body alone. To truly be seen in the octane scene, the restorer doused his creation in entrancing Viper Red two-stage. And today, this Plymouth presents well from every angle, quickly transforming an uncouth garage of strife into a swank gallery of power!

There's just something inherently cool about mid-60s Detroit metal. It's almost as if the Big Three had struck a perfect balance between the lavish, hand-tailored designs of the late-50s and the ubiquitous, performance-driven designs of the late-60s. That resulted in cars that were equal parts style, power AND presence. At the front of this super straight Savoy, a stainless, "PLYMOUTH" branded grille hangs crystal clear headlights between a showroom-fresh bumper, bright parking lamps and a bold hood scoop. Behind that scoop, like-new glass rides in excellent stainless trim, fresh stainless drip rails and opposed stainless wipers. Below those blades, sculpted fenders hang simple "Plymouth" scripts between a small driver's mirror, traditional door handles and a requisite gold Pentastar. And at the back of the car, crystal clear tail lights reflect subtle trunk trim, lively "P L Y M O U T H" lettering and a second, showroom-fresh bumper.

TWO CARBS AND 572 CUBIC INCHES OF HEMI POWER!

Toss this Plymouth's long hood and you'll find 572 cubic inches of hot Hemi crate engine that cooks a massive 650 horsepower into an easy 650 lb./ft. of strip scorching torque! All the big engine's high octane fury rides in a glossy Hemi Orange block, which hangs an attractive set of mirrored valve covers over aluminum heads and a 'factory' 572 Hemi cam. A rich mixture of cool air and pure gas is supplied by duo of Holley 650s, which are sandwiched between tidy air cleaners, fresh stainless veins and a familiar Cross-Ram Intake. 10.5 to 1 compression is sparked by reliable electronic ignition, which sequences fire through eight high quality Taylor Spiro Pro cables. Exhaust swirls through bundles of coated, long-tube headers, which dump into coated, large-diameter pipes. Everything's cooled by a beefy radiator and an aluminum water pump. And naturally, the car's Viper Red engine compartment is clean, tasteful and simple.

TORSION BAR TECHNIQUE

According to the Auburn Hills gang, nothing tracks down the road with the confidence of a torsion bar MoPar. And when you combine that surefootedness with this Savoy's lightened build and dragon slaying powertrain, you're in for the ride of your life! The high performance big block churns torque through a tough A833 4-speed to a TA-capped Dana 60 that's finished with big, 3.73 gears. At the ends of that stellar drivetrain, an original torsion bar front and leaf spring rear suspension, augmented with tubular sub-frame connectors, increases both drivability and track times. That rugged chassis, seated under precise mini tubs, traces an H-shaped crossover, throaty turbo mufflers and polished stainless turndowns. Braking is handled by a quartet of Wilwood calipers. Steering feels firm and responsive thanks to a traditional manual rack. And all this first rate hardware prowls on an appropriate set of American Racing Torq Thrust Ds, which spin 7.10-15 Firestone Deluxe Champions in front of 10.00-15 Firestone Dragsters.

STRIPPED FOR THE STRIP

Take a look inside this Plymouth and you'll find a spacious and airy cockpit that's tailored to dominating the strip. Aluminum, speed-drilled brackets anchor enough seating for the gear grabber and one lucky guest. In front of those color-keyed vinyls, a simple dash features the only thing you'll ever need: a full suite of factory gauges. Below that telemetry, fade-free carpet sails a long Hurst shifter between factory handles and pick-free side panels. And the driver spins a restored steering wheel around a modernist Mayflower centerpiece.

Featuring jaw-dropping looks, massive Hemi power and an authentic, no bull spirit, this iconic Savoy is a brutal classic that's guaranteed to net trophies AND respect. Ready to relive the glory days of drag racing? Don't miss the chance to own this "Industrial Strength" Plymouth!
