GarageKeptMotors.) ... a car that perfectly mixed performance,
affordability and a sexy image. €"drivingline dot com The 1964
Pontiac GTO is the car that's widely hailed as the first true
American muscle car, but it was built from a formula that
hot-rodders and racers had already been using for decades - a
bigger engine in a lighter car. Originally, the GTO was an
equipment-and-trim package for the sedate, mid-size Tempest. Before
long, driven partly by its performance and partly because of a very
effective marketing campaign, the GTO quickly became a runaway
sales success and a free-standing Pontiac model... one of America's
most iconic automobiles. Soon, other brands - both from within
General Motors and all across Detroit - wanted to get in on the
action, and the muscle car era was born. Pontiac hoped to sell
5,000 GTOs in 1964 but ended up posting more than six times that
number at 32,450. Production included 7,384 Sport Coupes (window
post), 18,422 Hardtop Coupes (no post) and 6,644 convertibles all
built on a 115-inch wheelbase. (rrstar.com) Offered here is a
well-documented, rotisserie-restored example of the rare first-year
Pontiac GTO convertible. Included with the car is a copy of the
Pontiac build-sheet specifying all optional equipment. Also
included are the owner's manual and related literature. The car's
full professional restoration was completed just four years ago in
August 2016, and the results are stunning. Available at the
GarageKeptMotors website, are more than 180 high-definition
photographs of the car, taken from virtually every angle including
from underneath. The short walk-around-and-startup video gives a
brief audio sampling of the 389 4-barrel V8's muscle. We encourage
in-person inspections of the car at our Grand Rapids, Michigan
showroom. Please call or email us first to arrange an advance
appointment, or to ask any questions. Candy Red Mustang metallic
exterior paint was professionally applied-including in the engine
bay, door jambs, and fuel-filler areas-and is of uniform, standout
quality. The black fabric top is brand new and properly fitted. All
glass-lighting lenses, windshield, and side windows-is clear and
unblemished. Chrome trim on the bumpers, grille, side mirrors,
windshield surround, and hood scoops is all in excellent,
show-worthy condition. GTO badging front, rear, and both sides is
correct, and correctly located. BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires are
mounted on American Racing Turbo Thrust style wheels. The car's
interior carries on the red-and-black color theme beginning with
the exterior-color paint on top and bottom portions of the dash.
Original gauges including the no-redline tachometer and 120-mph
speedometer are correct. Machined-steel dash trim surrounded by
black padding and red-painted lower dash with GTO emblem completes
the performance-oriented look. The wood-rimmed steering wheel and
center-console-located automatic shifter are original to the car.
Seating upholstery on both the front bucket seats and the rear
bench seat is black vinyl. Floors are carpeted in black and covered
with carpet mats, GTO-logo-embroidered up front. The car's trunk
area is clean with a factory-style vinyl mat in place. Under the
hood, the 389.4-branded chrome air cleaner crowns the engine that
made a GTO a GTO. Properly painted in Pontias turquoise the engine
block also features dress-up chromed valve covers. In all, the
engine compartment is clean and tidy with hoses and components
properly located throughout. VIN tag
