The 1957 Corvettes offered buyers more choices than ever before.
New colors, power accessories, creature comforts, and most
important, high-horsepower, fuel-injected engines finally made the
Corvette "America's Sports Car." Of interest was the new
fuel-injected Corvette, which was the fastest American car produced
that year. The hottest variant produced 283 horsepower from 283
cubic inches of displacement. With one horsepower per cubic inch,
it was a remarkable figure for a performance car at the time. Just
1,040 Corvettes were equipped with the "Fuelie" option for 1957,
with only 716 of those, including the example offered here, giving
a genuine 283 horsepower. These instant collectibles quickly became
favorites of sports-car racers, who recognized that the
fuel-injection system provided a precise, surge-free fuel supply
during competition. Then as now, the fuel-injected variants are
considered by many to represent the ultimate Corvette performance
option.
E57S104606 comes from 15 years of private ownership and care in
Houston, Texas residency. Finished in correct Venetian Red body and
Hardtop with Beige coves, over matching Red upholstery and B.F.
Goodrich Silvertown whitewall tires. The Corvette displays a very
honest, early 1990's restoration, with just over 53,000 miles,
which are believed to be original. It's said the cosmetic
refreshing was performed frame-off, to an accident-free and very
original example. The beige dashboard was preserved as
original.
Prior to its 2005 change of ownership the correct 283 engine was
inspected, resealed and refinished, along with the distributor by
Don Baker and NCRS judge. A number notable services invoiced from
2010-2020 include: R&R of the heater and ventilation system,
general maintenance and upkeep, restored speaker and new Retrosound
radio, R&R wheel bearings, brake cylinder, drums and master
cylinder, hoses, filters and fluids, tachometer cable, rebuild
windshield wiper motor, turn signal and steering column,
restoration of the fuel injection system by Ken Hansen, along with
correct new ignition components. The car performs exceptionally
well overall with plenty of power and pep. Note the hardtop went
missing under previous ownership. Engine compression reads as
follows: 165, 165, 162, 150, 165, 170, 170, 167 psi.
