Vehicle Description
Lower, wider, and longer is how Detroit made cars in the '60s, and
this 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 LTD is arguably the best way to show
that off. This has plenty of original features and a powerful V8 -
and it's all offered for a nice price.
This is the right generation to step up into a Galaxie. Ford's
full-sized offering debuted a new look this year that had an ideal
look of muscle car aggression with executive-class sophistication.
So it's especially nice to find one in top-level LTD trim (also its
first year ever.) Up front, the vertical stacked headlights make a
bold statement, and an artfully crafted grille takes up all the
space in-between. The long hardtop profile gives plenty of time to
develop the sporty crease that starts at the door and doesn't stop
until it reaches the taillight. The top-of-the-line LTD adds some
extra trim, and that combines with the big chrome bumpers and
polished smoothie wheels to look great against the blue paint.
There's lot of preserved pieces on this coupe, and that's because
it has spent most of its time under the care of two families. The
story is the first two owners were friends and airline mechanics,
so there is both passion and skill behind this coupe.
The classic presentation continues inside. There is a high degree
of originality everywhere you look, including the LTD's exclusive
wood-like trim on the doors, dash, and steering wheel. There have
been some upgrades, but it all keeps a classic style. For example,
the two wide rows of bench seating have been re-covered within the
last few years in a period-correct vinyl. Even the vintage FM tuner
to supplement the AM radio is still on display. It's all part of a
classic package that's great for cruising. That's why you can roll
down all the windows and really enjoy the pillarless hardtop
experience.
Pop the hood and you'll see that this big engine bay has been
consumed with big V8 power. This is a Z-code coupe, so it's great
to see the correct-style 390 cubic-inch V8 with a four-barrel
carburetor on top. In fact, this is believed to be original to the
car. It's been dressed nicely with the golden air cleaner and
matching valve covers, but overall the V8 feels exceptionally
authentic. And you can really tell this was under good care for all
those decades by the way this one fires up readily and runs
smoothly. A motor this large has no trouble giving this full-size
Ford some real get-up-and-go, and the dual exhaust has the quiet
sound that really embodies the range-topping LTD. It's a power
steering car with a three-speed automatic transmission. So, while
it's no slouch in-between the stoplights, this is really more
comfortable taking everyone to the Saturday cruise-in.
Complete with owner's manual, this is a well-respected coupe with a
story to tell. It's ready for the next level or just enjoy today as
a dignified well-kept classic. Call now!
