Vehicle Description
This is a pickup truck that has a nearly indestructible reputation.
To find one so well preserved/presented that also has the best
features, like air conditioning and a five-speed, makes for the
perfect mix of nostalgia and daily driver appeal.
Not only is the reputation of this truck tough, but it's looks are
quite intimidating, too. The hood has a hint of a power bulge, the
fenders are flared wide, and the stance is nice and tall (making
the subtle addition of the bright tubular step bars quite nice.)
You get to see all of this so well because the sheetmetal has been
respected for over three decades. There was a more recent
professional respray of the original gray paint. So it does a
terrific job of highlighting the well-creased lines of this pickup.
But as good as this one looks, it still is ready to work and play
as hard as you. That's why there's liner paint in the bed, a
folding tonneau cover, and a proper trailer hitch.
The same exceptional level of presentation is found on the inside,
too. The door panels, dash, seat, and so much more look stock. It's
the result of the right mix of preservation and investments in
correct replacements. There are nice factory features like a tilt
steering column and the sliding rear window provides the kind of
old-school truck breezes we all love. You will also find plenty of
worthwhile upgrades, like a movable cup holder center console,
AM/FM/cassette stereo with CD changer, auxiliary gauges (including
a tach, )and the air conditioning is blowing cold with modern
R134a.
Under the hood is what makes these Toyotas so desirable. The
2.4-liter 22R motor is the backbone on which Toyota has built their
reputation for reliability. This is a replacement motor that was
imported about halfway through the truck's life, and that's
important, because we never were offered this kind of high
performance version that was available elsewhere. It's a
fuel-injected powerplant that features aluminum heads and a header.
That means you get a reliable reputation mixed with extra
efficiently and power. The way this one fires up reaffirms the
everlasting nature of a well-maintained Toyota truck, and the
five-speed manual transmission gives you full control. It's the
right mix of preservation and upgrades that will make this a true
stunner as the market continues to grow nostalgic for these tough
Toyotas. But more than just collectable, this pickup has a lot of
work and play left in it, too. The two-speed 4x4 transfer case,
tall stance, and Bridgestone Dualer tires get you deep into nature.
Plus, power steering and power brakes with discs up front make it
easy to run around town or the trail.
Complete with owner's manual and maintenance records, this is
nostalgia and ability all offered at quite an affordable price.
