Garage Kept Motors.) Here's a 911 Targa that's just a little
different than the typical Targa. This Porsche is a nice mix of a
number of different 911 generation parts that range across a number
of high performance models. A 911 that is a mix of a bunch of other
Carrera components isn't the kind of thing that we would find
appealing, but the way that this car has been put together puts it
in another league. Eagle-eyed Porsche fans will surely notice a
number of things that are not normal for a '78 911SC Targa at first
glance. The first thing that is easily noticeable is the fact that
the car is a widebody. No this isn't a fiberglass widebody that has
been bonded - or Bondo-ed to the car, it is a full steel widebody
using factory 930 Turbo components. Before we go too far into what
the car is now, how about a little history. This '78 Targa left the
factory finished in Brown, if you want to be technical, the actual
color name is Bitter Chocolate, code 408. This car also left the
factory with a 3.0 Liter flat six rather than the 3.6 Liter flat
six that currently takes up space in the boot of this bright 911.
At the front of the car a lower spoiler, updated headlights, and a
later model lower front valance including fog lights, were added.
Like the exterior, the interior of the car has undergone a number
of changes in the form of a leather wrapped upper dashboard, wood
steering wheel, Pioneer stereo, yellow trim around the gauges,
factory Turbo seats, and RSR door panels. The familiar Targa top
allows open air cruising, and a chance to hear the awesome engine
note even clearer. In the rear of the car is an all aluminum 3.6
Liter flat 6, which was first available in the US market in the '94
911/964 Turbo. The original 915 transmission is now connected to
the 3.6, and has a Sachs clutch kit with lightweight flywheel. A
Carrera oil cooler with a fan has been added to keep the oil temps
down as much as possible. Being a larger displacement, air cooled
flat-6 the extra oil cooler is a great add on. Aftermarket headers
and exhaust system free up some horsepower, and allows you to hear
the sound of this car a little nicer. This car sounds GREAT!
Elephant Racing suspension components have been installed and
include; strut bar, control arm bushings, upper strut inserts.
Tarett Racing sway bars have also been added along with upgraded
torsion bars, and 993 Turbo brakes. 18 3 Piece wheels with custom
body colored lips give the exterior a little flair. Not your
typical Targa, but an awesome car nonetheless! Don't miss out on
this one - it's ready for track days, or just a cruise around town.
