Vehicle Description
International Harvester has achieved quite a following among
classic car and truck enthusiasts over the last few years, with the
Scout and Scout II leading the way. But one thing you don't see
every day is a Travelall - International's answer to the Chevrolet
Suburban. Similar in size to its bowtied competitor, the Travelall
has the advantage of four doors instead of the Suburban's
three.
Finished in white with a blue roof and excellent woodgrain, this
Travelall presents as a good driver on the outside and has a great
look. Original trim shows light but not objectionable patina.
Floors and rockers are solid with no known rust. But the interior
is where it really shines. The power front seats and center console
are out of a late-model Suburban; they are remarkably comfortable
and supportive. The folding rear bench seat, door panels and front
seats have all been custom upholstered in a tasteful dark blue.
Although the big greenhouse provides excellent sight lines from the
driver's seat, a back-up camera with monitor mounted on the dash
adds an extra layer of safety.
All gauges are working and a modern AM/FM/CD stereo with bluetooth
is installed. Manual windows in the doors work easily with no
binding, and the power rear window operates smoothly both up and
down via a switch in the dash. And last but certainly not least,
this truck has a Vintage A/C climate control system installed for
fully integrated heat, defrost and air conditioning with three
simple knobs.
Under the hood is International Harvester's big 392 cubic inch V8
mated to an automatic transmission, plus our-barrel Edlebrock carb,
MSD ignition and aluminum radiator. This truck saw an extensive
mechanical overhaul a few years ago and it runs and drives great -
thanks to the V8, automatic, power steering, power brakes and
updated interior, it's surprisingly comfortable (even at highway
speeds).
