Vehicle Description
1968 Volkswagen Transporter
Type 26 (pickup)
The easily recognizable Volkswagen Transporter is Volkswagen's
second automotive model. Their first model was known as the Type 1
or "Beetle" leaving Type 2 as a factory recognition to the
"Transporter". With nicknames like minibus, microbus, and hippie
van this is a vehicle anyone from the 1960's can remember!
This 1968 Volkswagen Transporter Pickup or "Type 26" was made in
Germany on October of 1968 and sent directly to New York. It
catches your eye with the newer Neptune Blue paint and loveable
design. The truck runs and drives very well with the 1.6 Liter,
1584cc engine completely rebuilt in August 2019 by VW specialists.
The clutch is smooth and the four-speed manual transmission shifts
well. The four drum brakes work well and are plenty to stop this
lightweight truck. The interior is in good condition with dark blue
bench seating. A small section of the driver's side floor pan has
been patched. The frame is in good condition with only light
surface rust. The truck-bed sides and/ or tailgate can be easily
lowered by one person. The tailgate is factory designed with two
circular holes cut into it to show the brake lights when opened!
Below the bed is a large storage area that has lockable access
doors on both sides.
Included with this VW is a custom canopy that fits over the bed
made by Busware. A retractable metal frame is attached to Ash
hardwood boards that support the white, water resistant canopy top.
It can be easily adjusted and opens to multiple options. The truck
can be driven with the canopy lowered. This traditionally designed
custom top makes for an easily setup, attention getting display
area.
For an additional $2,500 the custom made, stainless steel rack
designed to hold flower pots is for sale. It is bolt mounted to the
bed and easily removed. This rack can be seen in use in the
attached images.
