For Sale at Auction: 1950 Packard Eight in Salt Lake City, Utah

Vehicle Description

1950 Packard Eight Touring Sedan

VIN:  2392577794

Engine Number:  H241139

Having weathered the Great Depression and the recession of the late 1930s, Packard retained its market dominance in the luxury car market and made inroads into the standard car market as well.  Like other American manufacturing companies, Packard facilities turned their attention to the War effort in 1942.  Over a three year period, over 55,000 Packard engines were built to power planes such as the P-51 Mustang and the American PT boats both so vital to the Allies success in World War II.

Following the war, Packard turned its attention back to the US car market and had great sales success as Detroit worked to meet the pent up demand from the war years.  The 1948-1950 body style was considered sleek by some, blending classic with modern.

The car presented at market is a very solid example of a 1949 car sold and badged as a 1950.  Acquired from an estate in Northern Montana, the car has had a re-paint and looks good from 20ft.  The interior seat upholstery and headliner appear to have been replaced.  The front seat flooring is the factory original rubber floor mat and is in excellent condition.  The rear carpet is original too.  The door upholstery and handles show typical wear and tear for a 56,000 mile, 70 year old car.  The dash chrome is shiny and complete and all exterior chrome and stainless is present, nice and original.  The wide whitewall tires put the finishing touch on this 1950s Classic.

The Packard Factory options present include:

  • Overdrive
  • ElectroMatic Clutch
  • Oil Bath Air Cleaner
  • Oil Filter
  • Sun Visor
  • Trunk Light

Mechanically the engine runs smooth and the transmission shifts well.  The car has overdrive for comfortable highway cruising.  A new, period correct, 6 volt battery provides the cranking power to bring this car to life when the gas pedal starter button is engaged.

The body of this car is very well preserved.  The rocker panels and rear of the trunk, known rust areas on these cars, appear solid with typical surface rust only.  There is no visible rust through in either the rockers or the trunk.  As a testament to the build quality, the doors open and shut with ease 70 years after production.  The best description for this car is "it's a very good survivor with a re-paint."  One look at the Packard grill emblem will show you the care this car was provided by owners over the years.

This Packard can be enjoyed for many years to come with many miles of motoring memories remaining.

This car has been consigned to the 5th Annual Salt Lake City Classic Car Auction featuring 150 Classic and Collector cars selling across the auction block!
