Vehicle Description
1955 Chris Craft 20 Holiday Wooden Boat
Chris Smith built his first wooden boat in 1874 at the age of 13.
Years later, he built a duck hunting boat. His friends liked the
way he built them, and they asked him to build them one. This was
technically the start of the boat company. He soon began to build
more boats and joined his brother Hank in 1881 to begin producing
boats full-time.
A restored bronze bottom, white waterline, off white deck stripes,
a no soak 3/8 marine compound hull then covered with multi coat
varnished and painted mahogany boat is here for consignment. This
one has only been dipped in freshwater, and never seen the open
spaces of the salty seas. A replaced mid-engine and upgraded
electrics to a 12-volt system make this a true "driver" for lack of
a better word, meaning it can be run and not worry about calling
the Coast Guard for a tow!
Exterior
Varnished Mahogany and Bronze Painted Mahogany is seen from rubrail
to rubrail. As noted, new 3/8" marine compound underpayment over
original mahogany bulkheads and new keel. This was then covered
with new mahogany planking patterned off the original hull boards,
and painted bronze. A few minor areas of separation are seen
between the keel boards, under the white water line. The prop shaft
mounting screws are nice and tight and present in good repainted
condition, as is the rudder. Caravel Mahogany planking is seen
covering the freeboard area and is nicely varnished. Mahogany
decking with cream colored deck stripes in very nice condition
cover the top rear of the boat.
Interior
Original Flame Red colors have been replicated with new material,
and all are in very good condition. We note a single captain's seat
in front of the wheel, and a dual seat bench finishing out the
front seating. Way back are more seats, in the form of a triple
cushioned rear bench. A fully restored steering wheel, as well as
throttle lever, gauges, and windshield are present. The exposed
interior inwales are in very good condition and structurally
unharmed. A brightwork bow, and rope ties are so shiny the fish
will be jumping on the boat. All chromed trimmings are flawless. A
white painted bead board covers the floors of the boat, and the
engine cover is in the very center of the hull on the inside just
in front of the rear seats, and just behind the front seats. Mid
boat if you will.
Drivetrain
The engine believed to be a Hercules KLC inline flathead 6-cylinder
engine and is period for this boat, but not original to this boat.
This engine is capable of producing 120 HP and can go up to a speed
of 38MPH. This will make the propeller whirl and create a wake to
make the neighbors bobble.
This rebuilt classic wood boat, upgraded for minimal soaking, a
goer and a shower, is here for the boater who wants to show up on a
lake and be the envy of the flotilla. Harken back to the days of
the Kennedy's and Hyannis Port, where motoring around the neck was
a daily outing, and a breath of fresh air. A boat made of mahogany,
and certainly a Holiday if there ever was one. Comes with a 2015
Venture trailer, engine manual, convertible top and equipment
record. Boat is sold on a Bill of Sale only, but the trailer has a
title. This one will float your boat!!
