The 1935 and 1936 Fords saw a thorough refresh of the models’ popular engine. The previous V8 4-cylinder was no longer offered, and the 221 cubic inch V8 became the only engine available for those years.
In 1936, the 4-door Deluxe was named the Model 68. It was introduced with a fully framed windshield, weatherproof canvas top and an integrated trunk back design. This model had the updated inverted pentagonal grille with all-vertical bars beneath the prominent hood plus three horizontal chrome side strips. In addition, instead of wire wheels, the 1936 Phaeton used pressed steel solid artillery wheels. The concealed horn, long a signature Ford design feature, helped define this more modern, sporty Ford.
The most popular of the mid-30s Fords for look and performance, the 1936 Model 68 Deluxe Phaeton has arguably the best body style from one of the most desirable years. Its many modern design features make this car easy to drive, maintain and acquire necessary new or old stock parts.
This stunning antique underwent a sympathetic frame-on restoration about 20 years ago. The chrome is mostly original and shows little wear, and it sports a beautiful new tan canvas top. The full set of side curtains and irons are original and in very nice condition, which indicates they have been used infrequently. The undercarriage is exceptionally clean with no evidence of abuse and has never been exposed to inclement weather. The interior brown leather is flawless.
All gauges are crisp and work well, and the accessories include the original radio and heater. Even more rare is the greyhound hood mascot.
This lovely Deluxe Phaeton runs exceptionally well and has been extremely well- maintained. It remains ready to drive both for any short trip or long tour and will provide many miles of enjoyment.
