Lincoln Mark II Continental. The most expensive domestic car
produced at the time and being only sold to the elite, this
Continental has always been cherished.
There is a great deal of information available from many sources
regarding the rarity and exclusivity of the 1956-1957 Mark II
series. When introduced in the fall of 1955 (model year 1956) the
largely hand built Mark II was the most expensive American made
car. It was priced at approximately $10,400 which at the time was
about the same as a Rolls Royce or twice the cost of a Cadillac.
Total production for the two model year production run 1956-57 was
approximately 3000 with fewer than 2600 being made in 1956.
Numerous celebrities including President Eisenhower, Frank Sinatra
and Elvis Presley owned Mark II's and Warner Brothers presented
Elizabeth Taylor with one to commemorate the conclusion of the
filming of GIANT with Rock Hudson and James Dean. Ms Taylor's Mark
II was custom ordered in a dark shade of violet to match the color
of her eyes. These were very special automobiles intended for a
very select clientele.
In what many consider the most beautiful color combination
available, Pastoral Blue (paint code 4) with matching two tone blue
leather interior. This car was special ordered with Factory Air
Conditioning as well. Additional options include power steering,
power brakes, power windows, power vent windows, power seat, power
antennae, am radio, tinted glass, tachometer and gauges, chrome
plated door jams, full disc wheel cover, www tires. The original
jack and jack bag is still with the car and is included in the
purchase.
This Continental is in excellent condition and is show just 6,299
miles on the odometer. Interesting enough, the car has an all
original leather interior that still shows little to no wear at
all. The engine bay is very tidy and has the original hood pad that
is not even dirty. The car has been well maintained and it shows.
The paint and body is excellent. The car is a very solid Arizona
