Testarossa
In 1991 Maranello updated the iconic Testarossa with the 512 TR,
reverting to the numerical nomenclature signifying a 5-liter,
12-cylinder engine. While the engine's displacement was identical
to the Testarossa, compression was raised with adjusted porting,
redesigned inlet plenums, and larger valves. In combination with a
revised camshaft profile and Bosch Motronic M2.7 fuel management,
the engine developed an additional 38 hp, good for 421 hp in US
specification. Handling performance was aided with a lower chassis
and corresponding placement of the engine, resulting in a lower
overall center of gravity.
Cosmetically, the Testarossa's coachwork was slightly modified with
a new front end derived from the concurrent 348 model, revised sail
panels, a louvered engine lid, and new five-spoke alloy wheels.
Over four years of production, 2,261 examples of the 512 TR were
built, and the model was the penultimate development of the
prodigious Testarossa's evolution, offering greater performance
with more restrained styling.
This mid-production example claims minimal use and regular
attention while in the ownership of a few dedicated caretakers.
Featuring its original Rosso paint, beige interior, and tires,
chassis no. 96223 has been certified by Ferrari Classiche as a
matching-numbers example retaining all of its original major
mechanical components. In 2013, the TR underwent an engine-out
service that included replacement of the timing belt, while the
water pump and seals were simultaneously addressed.
Invoices on file reflect an additional bout of maintenance by
Ferrari of Atlanta in late 2018. Totaling over $33,000, this work
included installation of a new exhaust system, cleaning of the fuel
tanks and installation of new fuel pumps and lines, and repair to
the water pump and air-conditioning compressor. The car also
received a major engine-out service including replacement of all
belts and a new battery. Documented with a CARFAX and service
invoices, this beautiful 512 benefits from a life of doting upkeep
and currently displays 10,092 miles.
The modestly driven TR is accompanied by owner's manuals and offers
a superb acquisition for any collector, particularly Ferrari
flat-12 enthusiasts. It is ideal for display at local concours
d'elegance, Cars & Coffee gatherings, and FCA events, or may be
appreciated on the open road for its rapid performance. To view this
