This is a genuine Y-84 Special "Bandit" Edition. Loaded with
options and documented with build sheet. Restored by Trans Am
specialties. This TA has everything going for it. The one weakness
was the whimpy 301 motor. That was rectified with a performance
built 400!
EXTERIOR: The Bandit cars were starlight black and decked out with
all the gold trimmings. Gold birds, stripes and gold accents on the
aluminum turbo wheels. Window moldings were blacked out. This car
also has factory glass t-tops. The body is very clean and straight.
Bottom of the doors are clean, factory spotwelds around the wheel
wells are clean. The rubber bumpers are excellent. The paint is
polished like a mirror. Jambs are painted nice. New weatherstrips
and window seals. New windshield. Decals are all fresh. Wheels are
professionally restored, BFG tires look new. This car looks fast
just sitting still- all the scoops, flares, spoilers and the
screaming chicken on the hood!
INTERIOR: Has deluxe cloth interior. Loaded up with options too.
Has tilt formula wheel, power windows, locks, rear defrost, rally
gauges and the factory premium cassette stereo. Looks like it has
new carpets, upholstery, door panels, armrests, door handle bezels,
headliner etc. The trim pieces are excellent-pilkars, seat backs
etc. Dash area is clean- machine turned bezel is bright, nothing
cut or damaged. Console is excellent, new shifter bezel.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The 200 hp little 301 motor was upgraded with a
performance built 6.6 400! Has an Isky cam, Edelbrock intake, dual
feed big Holley carb, HEI ignition system with MSD box and a set of
headers. It has factory power steering, power brakes and air
conditioning. A/C system has been gone through, several new parts.
Blows cold air. Upgraded aluminum radiator, stock clutch fan,
shroud and overflow bottle.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Rust free, damage free metal. Has original space
saver spare with the complete jack assembly. The jack is mounted up
under the rear deck where it's supposed to be. Has a new carpet
liner, also includes the original Fisher t-top bags. Trunk light
works. Bottom of the trunk lid is glossy, the jamb is a little
dull. Weatherstrip is nice.
UNDERSIDE: Bottom of the motor is still spotless. New fuel pump and
high torque starter. Has turbo 350 automatic trans. Original 3.08
posi in back. New exhaust with stainless Magnaflow mufflers and
correct splitter tips. The floors are rock solid original metal.
The frame rails, rockers, inner 1/4s all look great. All the
components look proper and good. Has factory 4 wheel disc
brakes.
This Trans Am has a lot to offer at a great price. It would be
double for this same car if it were a 1979. 81s are worth less
because the motor size dropped which was taken care of in this one.
All you need to do with this car is watch out for Smokeys!
